Well, my mom named me Talysa...(Tuh-Lee-suh) which as a child I detested of course because it made for a horrific first day of school...."Jenny, Jason, Mary, uh...ummm..." and then of course I always had to speak up and give the correct pronunciation....as though I was almost apologetic for having such a weird name....

As I have become an adult I now LOVE LOVE LOVE having a unique name....and have even come to terms with it NEVER being pronounced correctly...in fact I have an exterminator that has been calling me "Teresa" now for 3 years and I haven't even bothered correcting her! :-)

On to the point of this rambling....there is another reason I have learned to love and accept my strange title....I found out not too long ago that my moms grandma was actually insulted and upset with my mom for not naming me after her when I was born....even refusing to call me Talysa....her name? Octo Almo Staggs...I kid you not! :-)

My first son would be Austin & my first daughter would be Emily. My first two kids are Austin Hunter & Emily Grace. I wanted another son named David. I loved the name Schuyler/Skyler for either a boy or girl. My son who was to be David is Schuyler Houston. My hubby wanted a girl named Hope but I only liked it for a middle. Mom suggested Amelia so our 2nd dau is Amelia Hope. I always wanted to honor my mom--when we had our 4th dau we named her Elizabeth (we chose Joy for mn since we had Grace & Hope). If we have another son he will be Samuel Isaac (one of my dolls was named that). So I guess you can say I used names for my kids that I wanted to name my children when I was a child.

Mia or Mya was a name that stuck with me and then DeAnna (from Star Trek Next Generation). Even though my hubby was a big fan of the show, he wasn't going for it nor was he into the idea of naming our possible son Jean-Luc. Then when I was pregnant with our first, we were going to name her or him Monteray Jack Colby. We thought it was hilarious but thought better of it. None of our four are named after cheese or tv characters.

Hey Jen!
Thanks so much for hosting this contest. I will get Joanne's ebooks right out to her! I do wish I had a more impressive website to send folks to, it really needs some help. :) But I'd love for your gazillion wonderful friends to visit me sometime at my blog too. Shamefully plugging myself...www.homeschoolblogger.com/byhisgraceincolorado.

When I was a young lass I wanted to name my future daughter "Kerensa Karlee"~ Heaven only knows where that came from. When I was pregnant wtih my firstborn, I dreamt that "she" was a boy, and his name was Micah James. I also dreamt that I had the baby all by myself with all the hospital staff ignoring me. Which of course, was not how Mary Rose was birthed at all, an emergency C section. LOL The best laid plans of mice and mothers....

Love you and THANKS for hosting this contest! CandyFoote is hosting a contest too, if anyone wants to try again for a free ebook. :) Blessings to all,
Nancy

Not entering....my hopes for baby names were shattered by marrying a man who didn't like a single name that I liked. Every baby name we picked was a compromise of some sort. The last one was mostly my choice because after 36+ hours of labor at 40 years old, no one thought arguing with me was a good idea. Smart people.

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! I hope your dream comes true. I'm praying. Hard.

If this new baby is a boy, I am going to name him Justin. And give him the middle name Other. It has a nice ring to it...Justin Other Lockwood

I so wish that I had time to read thru all of these comments, but I need to hit the sack.

Anyway, my girl name was Stephanie, but when I grew up I couldn't stand it anymore. I now have my Julianna and I STILL love that name!

Devin (which is my oldest boys name) Sevin, Hevin, Kevin, oh and when I was really young if I had a girl I wanted to name her Jimmy! Jimmy! Crazy huh? I soon realized that my rhyming would not go over very well because all the kids would come running, or they would think I said another child's name and not come. So instead we named our youngest (3) Tyrus (which means another form of Thor...my husbands name) we just call him Ty which is what I started out liking. I heard Ty Pennington's name on the T.V. one day and I just knew right then my next child would be called Ty. My husband for the first time in 6 years said cool, find a full name for it that is neato like my name. You would not believe my excitement when I found Tyrus!

Jen,
Sorry to hear you were sick. I love the little guy your daughter made. Soo cute.
I always wanted a little girl I would name Victoria and I did. She is as strong as her name.
I hope you have a great time on your upcoming trip.
Blessings,
Ruth
