i almost entered because i have the same birthday as gena and i thought that would get me extra points. but i was afraid if i entered another contest and won again so soon i might be kicked out of future contests (i think i was more afraid of that than the bird flu).

Not to worry, JenEfer, you’ll freak out enough once you get those 50 chicks comfortably home… Have you come up with 50 names yet? Or you can be patriotic and take the easy way out at the same time– name them after the 50 United States of America. 🙂
Love,
Marshie who is ultra-sad that I did not win these very cool cards

Panic
Yes. I am. Espeshully since my dh is now looking at teaching in the ps again. I told him he’d have to wear gloves and a mask a la michael jackson so he wouldn’t bring germs back to his loved ones. ‘Course it will be hard teaching tuba with a mask.

Bird flu
I’m basically still eating chicken about 5 days a week, so I guess we’re not too worked up about that either 🙂 Then again, I never stopped enjoying my beef when the Mad cow scare was popular, and during Y2K I am proud to say I had not one bottle of water saved in the basement (no bomb shelter, freeze dried food or generator either). We’ll all just move in with the homestead bloggers (those without chickens) if anything happens. That’s my plan…and I’m sticking to it.

Way cool! Thank you! They will be used for sure! My dd LOVES art!
Bird flu: I’m not worked up about it. I think its just another thing that the media can have a hayday with to place fear into the masses.

I don't know
It is so hard to tell which major catastropy will do us in. Will it be the meteor shower? Or perhaps Global Warming? No, wait! It’ll be the super volcano!! Or maybe it will be the overpopulation of the world turning us to the Soilent Green senario. Or, it could be that bird flu. I think I’ll just bury my head in the sand, it is all too overwhelming.

No panic about it here in Pakistan yet. But I shall get extremely annoyed if eggs and chicken get impossible to find like they did last year when people were worried about it!

I’m not freaked out over the bird flu thing…maybe I should be, I don’t know. I think I’m too tired right now to be freaked out. I’m kind of ignoring the whole thing and hoping it will go away. I’m not saying that this is a good plan…but for right now it’s all I’ve got. :o)

Yet another panic attack
I fully agree with Kindredspiritmom. This is just another round of media-driven panic. From what I hear from friends in the USA, we’ve been bombarded much more heavily here in the UK about all the implications of bird flu — airplane routes stopping, schools closing, immigration stopping, etc., etc., etc. What kind of worries me is that we were being given all the implications of the disease before even one case had been diagnosed. I try to avoid all conspiracy theories, but it does make one wonder….
Having said that, I do have access to top secret government documents that say that IF bird flu hits the USA, they expect the epicentre of the epidemic to be somewhere in the Smoky Mountain region, and they believe that any form of fowl that has had to travel by any courier will be the most vulnerable due to the weakened state brought on by FEDEX boxes. Pretty scary, huh?

My chocolate candy bar kids
Hi Jen,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving the comment on my blog. I think my kids would prefer to be called “chocolate candy bar” rather than “sweet”! I have always hated to be seen as one who goes the way of the masses, but I think I’m going to have to break down and join the multitudes who have put you on their friends list. I’m getting tired of always viewing your verbal mayhem via your sister’s links. I hope that’s okay!

Dear Mr. Garrison,
I shall be honored to be listed among your friends. I shall add you to mine as well.
Sincerely,

Panic?
Naw, well not about bird flu. Maybe more about the things I’ve heard about government agencies snatching people’s kiddos and taking info from their blogs. Now that is something more panic-y.

Dear Mrs. Igarashi,
Many thanks for your formal note of acceptance. (Why is it that something as simple as subtle use of formality can be so funny? That cracked me up.) I am honoured that you are honoured to have me among your friends. I, in return, would be doubly honoured to have you among my friends, but I do hope that you have the courtesy to spell honoured correctly for those of your friends who lean toward the use of the Queen’s English in the future.
Sincerely,
Mr. Garrison

Have you gotten your chicks yet?
My mom ordered a bundle when we were kids, and it was one of the best experiences of my childhood. Hope they work out for you. I don’t know if I’d freak out about the bird flu. I’m just not the sort to be paranoid. Live.

I tend to freak-out over anything health related. But, after reading some of the blogs over at homesteadblogger.com I feel totally calm about it. Those seasoned homestead-types over there are not worried one iota (I just don’t get to use that word nearly enough) so I’m not gonna worry either! Some of them get very technical about why we don’t need to worry and many of them are laughing about the whole thing. Makes me feel better for sure!
Blessings,
Courtney

I don't panic …
I don’t panic over much of anything …. except when I sit down on the toilet in the middle of the night and one of my 3 boys has … well… I’m sure you get my drift…
Jen….just stay away from all animals and you should be safe from the bird flu. Oh wait…you just ordered several animals…well….umm…. maybe you should panic…
