May He Rest in Peace

I fear the worst for poor Curly.  Last night Coie
heard the coyotes going crazy and this morning there were vultures
circling down yonder past the tree line where we last saw our new noble
bird a'runnin'.  Poor Curly.  He was fun while he lasted.

On a lighter note, Rosie laid an egg.  It is really tiny, but boy
oh boy did we all get excited (doesn't take much around here to get us
riled up).  Tomorrow morning we're going to cook it and split it
between the eight of us.

And on a lamer note, I did something really dumb.  I went to
Walmart's 'hair department' and let them highlight my hair.  Words
cannot express it, so tomorrow I will post a picture. It is just too
ridiculous to keep to myself.

Almost lastly, I called the Cackle Hatchery
and the Estimated Chicken Arrival is April the 7th. Yipppeeeee.
You guys should come over and gawk at them with me.  I betcha they
are gonna be soooooooo cute.

Lastly lastly, are any of you guys going to the FPEA convention at the end of May?  If you live in, or around, Florida then you MUST come and hang out with me and Kate and Kris
We'll be out there to cover the event and to interview attendees,
speakers and vendors — plus Kris will be at a table handing out free
magazines and HSB T-shirts.

Now that is a sad state of affairs indeed. 8 people and one little egg…maybe if you add A LOT of milk to it, you can get a decent enough of an omelette for your youngun’s. Do you think any of them will steal it (the egg, not the omelette) and try to hatch it under their pillow? Just wondering. And if you lose the egg, then don’t wait too long before you start searching pillows because rotten eggs are pretty stinky.

Any plans to attend any TX conventions???

    About your hair…

…without seeing pics and just using my imagination…it could be worse. You coulda had your hair highlighted at the Wal-mart SCHOOL of hair design or something.

When I was in the 7th grade, my grandma took me to the local beauty school in the large metropolis of San Angelo, TX (NOT San Antonio…but Angelo). In exchange for washing her windows, she paid for me and all my sisters to get perms. Yup…kinky, spirally perms…talk about your ultra-curly-headed-real-life-monster!!! I also got this huge, red chemical burn on the back of my neck. Thanks, G-ma. Anyhoo, I’m sure this is much worse than any possible highlighting hijinks you may have experienced. I could post pics if you want to have a bad hair contest.

    Love,

    Marshie

One of the reasons I’ve decided to let my hair grow out is because I never really have had long hair. I got perms (never highlighting) and they sorta kinda destroyed my hair. Well DH has commanded “NO MORE PERMS, THEY ARE AWFUL! So now that I have somewhat healthy hair I am goning to try to grow it out. I do remember one nightmare of a perm – it reminds me of Michael Jacksons earlier days — I washed that baby three times after I got it and it stood in real good. You’d think that would have been the last perm but nope — I got many moer. I have pictures too if your having some kind of a contest.. fsdjkfhakjfhasdkfjhasdfkj

Looking forward to meeting your chick bunch when I come over. Oh and Muley boy gets a new home Sunday. We found another foolish person who wants him.

    I'm not going, but…

I happen to know that somebody with the initials M.H. is scheduled to be there. Yes, she of the stubborn blog log-in. I can get in to it and she can’t, LOL. She is now stuck in ‘anonymous’ land like I was. And she’s getting a bit testy about it, too, I must say. Maybe if you give her a shirt (and me one too, as the broker of this deal) she’ll cheer up. 🙂 Having so recently suffered from this problem myself, I know how painful it is. I think she (and I) REALLY need some shirts. Really. We have been through so much, you know.

    Poor curly

Sorry to hear of his apparent demise. Enjoy your 1/8 of an egg. Maybe an omlette with lots of stuff in it would work ~ sort of like stone soup for eggs? I can’t wait to see your hair!!! Having had my own turn dark blue and gray after an attempt to self-highlight I really should have no morbid curiosity about yours…but I get so little entertainment and movies are now $9.50 in Michigan.

Blessings on you, your hair and your chickens,

    Michele

    I can't wait

to see your new do tomorrow! Was WM really the only place around here you could find?

We ordered baby chicks a few years ago. Had to keep them inside for several weeks. That was fun- for about a week. Then they started to smell. Yuck. And, Marissa, I think, was allergic to them. We finally got them outside, but since we live in a wooded subdivision, we couldn’t let them run around. We have a little over an acre, but this is by no means a farm type subdivision. The neighbors would have had a coniption. We had them in this cage that could be moved around to different areas so they could eat fresh grass/bugs. It never worked out too well. You see, we live on a small mountain. You’ll get to experience that when you try to park at my house next week. So, I’ll have to wait for that day that I might live on some flat land and then we’ll try the chickens again.

Ashley posted that ducks are cuter. We duckling sat one afternoon. They are adorable, and even that little, you CAN’T keep them out of the water. They are funny.

    So sorry about Curly.

I bet ya’ll are full this morning! With that big breakfast I mean.

So are we going to have a chicken party? I don’t know though, the only food that you could really eat at a chicken party is of course chicken and that might cause mental anquish for some of those guys if we were all standing around looking at them while we munch on their 3 cousin twice removed.

Oh, so that’s what happened with my comment. I thought I had fixed that after my 14mo (who loves climbing onto my computer desk) found great delight in pressing the enter key over and over. Sorry, we are giving your blog lots of trouble lately, aren’t we?

OK, you’ve twisted my arm long enough, I’ll eat lunch with you at the convention. Sounds like fun. Anybody else want to join us? I can’t wait to get one of those t-shirts!

Well, I hope you enjoyed your 1/8th of an egg, and I can’t wait to see what happened to your hair! My mom got her hair cut at Walmart one time and was NOT happy.

    Have a happy day!

T-shirt? This is the first I’ve heard about handing out t-shirts …. it’s really nice to come over to your BLOG to read about what my job is going to entail while I’m sitting for hours at that table – LOL! I also want to help people get signed up with their own blog here on HSB, so I hope that some fellow HSBloggers from Florida will bring their non-blogging friends and we’ll get them signed up and blogging that weekend!

    Have fun in Florida!

I hear that convention is great. It is the same week-end as the NC convention, so I will be staying up here for that.

I want an HSB t-shirt! You need to have a contest, so I can win one. LOL

    Have a blessed day! Tami

    Oh wow..

we are on the same time schedules here!! We moved the same week to our new found LAND and our chicks are to hatch April 5th and arrive the 6th or 7th!! We are so excited…and READY…!!!

So sorry about your Rooster, are you having free roaming chickens? We just built a nice pen outside our chicken house for ours… LOTS or preditors here!

I’m also checking out that unit study thing… we were VERY close to getting a goat but we “chickened” out at the last minute!! Maybe next year… goats and breading (to get the milk each year) is a HUGE responsibility!! The chickens and LARGE garden will be enough for me!

My sympathy on your hair— been there done that—got the t-shirt!!
