I am really looking forward to going to FPEA this year. Not only will I get to hang out with one of my very closest friends,
I will also get to meet some of you. I am trying to get a head
count and see if we can plan some sort of a lunch or brunch for us HSB
bloggers. Wouldn't that be fun? We can also try and make
the beautiful Maggie Hogan hang out with us since she'll be at FPEA also. Kris Price
and her honey will also be there. Anyways, if you're planning on
being at the Florida convention, let me know. I can't wait to
meet you guys in person!
PS has anybody else gotten their Spring issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine?
If so what do you think? Leave your comments about it and we may
use them in the upcoming Summer issue (in the Teacher's Lounge section).
Lastly, last night I pulled a muscle right above my left hip bone while
I was doing sit ups. how lame is that? good golly it hurts.
I must be getting old!
Truly last, keep the Suarez's in prayer, they are driving across the country to hang out in Cali for a few weeks. Luckies.

DREADFULLY UNFAIR
Do you know what torture it is to have your FAVORITE magazine in the whole world arrive in the mail right when you are in the middle of preparing a Passover Celebration?
I DO!
I literally screeched, “AAAAH! NOT FAIR!”
I “rebuked” my ds for getting the mail, b/c if he had just left it in the mail box I would not know it had arrived and I would not be able to hear it calling my name… “Christina, come curl up with me and READ!”
The next day was no better. I got as far as gazing at the bright glossy cover before I needed to put hot rollers in my 5 year old’s hair before heading off to church for our early Easter Service.
Monday, too, slipped by… I flipped the magazine open while waiting for my dd at her ballet class, but did not have time to really look at it until that evening. (I could not just ignore the other mom who wanted to visit, but I was a bit tempted!)
I opened it up that night, once everyone was sweetly tucked in… and do you know what? I was so tired that I fell asleep! I was soooo disappointed! I wanted to read it!
Finally, OH JOY! I got to read several of the articles last night while my dc were at swim lessons!!!!!
I hope THAT never happens again… it ought to be a form likened unto medieval torture devices! YIKES!
I know I can’t read much today… I am driving ballet carpool for the little girls…
Tomorrow… maybe… at the pool for swim again! Or maybe it will have to wait until Friday… my STAY HOME day! 🙂
Or, heaven’s forbid, I might have to skip blogging for a day so I can devour my new magazine!

I am happy my sister is here visiting. However, they are keeping me rather busy. I think I like it but I don’t have to much time to think about it anyway.
We received out TOS yesterday. It looks really good. SDo you think it would be rude to start reading it when you have visitors that have traveled over 900 miles to see you read a homeschool magazine? dfkjahdfkjafhkdjashsdafjkh
Come play baseball on Monday! I’m not asking I’m telling you!! dfkjfhadsjkfhasdfjk
E-mail me if you want more info.
Oh.. I don’t excercise much because my motto is no pain no pain. fasdjkfhdaskfjdhsf
Ok — We are planning a party today for my sweet Sarah -she turns 7. I put the little ones all down for naps and everyone is snoozing – so it was a good time to get on here but now it’s back to work for me.

I’ll be at FPEA this year and would love to join in. However, does my non-HSB domain exclude me?!?!
Try to be easy on my feelings,

Finally got my Spring Issue
Today!!! I admit that I only read 2 articles so far, after flipping through every single page very quickly, I went back and read the Tribute to Ruth Beechick, and then I read your article, Jen, on Socialization. Excellent, excellent, excellent. I can’t wait to take the time and read through the whole thing.
I loved your hee hee hee. I talked that way myself in Jr. High and High School, due to the fact that I was totally stoned most of the time. That was MY grande socialization experience — backwash of the 60’s that I was. Yay socialization.
Speaking of socialization, did you see this? Funny cartoon on homeschoolers and socialization.

I just recieved my magazine today, so have only read parts of it. I love the way Gena writes…real and funny and straightforward. I enjoyed your article on socialization…I always enjoy your articles. And loved the article on Scouting. I haven’t been able to read more yet, but tomorrow I’m planning some quiet time alone with the magazine. Thanks to all of you for the excellent job you do in putting out this top notch magazine.

Well (huff, puff)! I’m going to be at NCHE that weekend. YOu know what they say, “Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina….” So, you just go on down there to Florida with all the blue hairs who can’t see over the steering wheel….while we have a rousing good time at the NC conference.
Seriously, Y’all ought to have a big time down there…sounds like a FUN weekend!

Yeah!
I got my magazine today. I almost missed it. I flipped through it quickly and it was just a teaser because I had errands to run and couldn’t sit down yet. SO I will finish this and go read some more. I read the article Spunky wrote on Missey and was very touched. I had a comment from Suzie about the magazine asking where she could get this magazine and would it be helpful for her and her kids. I laughed. I thought, where has she been. So I wrote her back explaining how she too could be priveledged enough to receive the cream of the crop of Homeschool magazines in the mail. I left the details on Gena’s blog. It’s really funny.
So~another funny. My friend who hasn’t received the winter issue yet received this week all the wonderful gifts and books you gals sent to her. She still hasn’t received the magazine. Soemthing funny is going on with the postal service I think.
By the way- are you going to be at the OCEAN NETWORK homeschool conference in Portland, OR and August? I sure wish I could attend the Florida one. But I don’t think I could pull that one off. “Uh honey, can I go to the homeschool conference for a girls weekend….In FLORIDA”. Nope, won’t work. Bummer.
on April 20th, 2006 at 7:39 am
I'm in for brunch!
I’ll be there Jen – driving in from South Carolina Thursday afternoon. Can’t wait! How will we schedule this and not miss a workshop? (Geek stress)
Anyway, I’m waiting anxiously for the spring issue of TOS – but I had absolutely NO mail yesterday—not even junk mail. I think I smell a conspiracy….
on April 20th, 2006 at 11:31 am
I'll be there!
I currently live in WV, but am a Florida girl, so my hubby is taking me to FL for vacation so we can go to the convention. I haven’t received my TOS yet, but am currently in MD tagging along with dh on a business trip. Anyone know of anywhere fun to take 6 kids in the Baltimore/ DC area?

Have FUN! I’ll send you my toilet cleaning pic, you can take it with you so I can be there in spirit.

I cannot wait to meet some bloggers!
I already know of a blogger from Miami that I am going to meet … my husband and I will be manning the booths every single day beginning on Friday night. Bring your friends by and we’ll sign them up for their own blog – LOL!

Oh, I wish I could
We have been impatiently waiting to move out of Florida for the last 9 months, so now it looks like things will finally start moving along. Just in time for me to miss all the good conventions (FPEA and the Charlotte Mason Convention in NC)!!!! UUUGGGGH!!! This has been one big frustrating year.
As for the new issue, I have received it (unusually early for me, yeah!!) I read your article and definately relate to your experience. I wasn’t able to afford all those designer jeans and I was terrible at sport, two strikes against me. So, I hung out with the reject crowd.
I also read the article about the trip to GB. I was really surprised at the attitudes. I was completely unaware of the problems you were facing. It is very upsetting to see so much hatred being directed at others. The people that were protesting are the same people that scream “intolerance” when others disagree with them. It is a sad state of affairs that people cannot honor others regardless of whether they agree.

Loved it!
I received my magazine in the mail Tuesday afternoon, but haven’t had nearly enough time to devour it! I am keeping it in the car so that I can read a paragraph at a time even at stoplights! I love it! I was moved to tears (again) at the sweet tribute paid to Missey and her family. You guys are awesome! I also really enjoyed getting to know Ruth Beechick even better through your interview. I have just been introduced to her (after homeschooling for five years, yes!) and love her books!
Thanks for putting out a top-notch homeschooling magazine! You guys are the best!

Hmmm….
Wonder if I can get to Florida. What could be better than a homeschool conference with the HSB gang in sunny Florida? I’ve got a laptop now. Surely they have wireless internet there. I wouldn’t even have to miss work. Ha!

Oops
Oh that was me up there. Sometimes I just can’t keep my multiple personalities… er I mean blogs/log ins straight!

Jen,
Thank you for your comment. It was a decision that took a long while to make. There are many wonderful ideas and people here at HSB. I’m just so incredibly sad over the whole thing.

Hey, you FPEA people… I’m looking to be adopted so I can go to the convention. I’m willing to pass as a teen (although probably not ABLE). I’ll work a booth (with four children in tow). I’ll clean, organize, haul curriculum, watch littles…
Okay, it’s not realistic. But I really want to go and see everyone. *sniffle*

What I think …
Someone’s comment in this issue of TOS says it best: just when we need it, it shows up. Before, the only refreshment we could expect was at the annual convention; by the time it came around, we were so exhausted and discouraged. With TOS, the encouragement is more frequent. The blogs help too.
Having only been a reader for a year, I had assumed that TOS had a huge subscription base in comparison with all the other homeschool mags out there. Gena’s comment in her hello this issue suprised me; it’s growing that much? I guess that’s what happens when you’re doing what He’s called you to do!
Thanks so much. It’s exactly what we need out here in the “trenches.” ; )
