Jeneric Jeneralities ~ by JenIG

I am finally home!  Kate and I were hard at work covering the latest big stories in the homeschool community at the FPEA convention in Florida.  I’m tired, but I am ready to SPILL ALL.  A real reporter never rests until the true story is told…

Below you will see the famous Chris Klicka of HSLDA and also the famous Doug Phillips of Vision Forum and the Independent Christian Films Festival.  I interviewed both and was able to learn some very interesting top secret confidential clandestine underground covert project they are working on.  It seems that Vision Forum and HSLDA are combining forces to form a brand new company called VF HSLDA (pronounced: !Viva HSLDA!).

Yep, it’s true.  Phillips
and Klicka are teaming up to produce a series of Broadway Musicals
depicting real life stories of homeschool lawyers writing litigation
and preparing court documents.  Stirring stuff.  I won't give away the big scenes, but one of the highlights is a riveting dance number with legal briefs doing the Cha Cha.

Chris Klicka

Doug Phillips

Chris Klicka is warm and charming.  I
enjoyed speaking with him and I hope to talk to him in the future about
popping in from time to time to write for TOS on issues about what's
going on over at HSLDA..

And Doug Phillips… I don’t know… that guy had his head in the clouds.  He
kept getting this far-away dreamy look in his eyes and mumbling a
countdown of when his wife was supposed to show up (apparently she was
driving down to meet him and he was planning to take her on a date) He
looked like a giddy teenager when he spoke about her.  I hope he and his wife had a lovely weekend after she made it down.  It was actually very sweet to see how genuinely excited he was about his family.
I was glad he stopped to chat when Kate and I accosted him as he happened to wander near our booth.  Mr. Phillips was truly kind, and very encouraging.  He told me and Kate that he really loved reading TOS, and that he didn’t read many homeschool magazines but The Old Schoolhouse Magazine was one that he did definitely read.  I told him I was going to quote him on that.  And look! What’s that he’s holding in the picture above?  I do believe he’s holding a copy of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.   I actually hoisted that copy on him right before the picture was snapped and told him, “Here, hold this”  I have no shame.  He was a great sport.  There is a chance I may LiveBlog his Film Festival this October.  I will keep you updated.

That’s all for now.  Tomorrow we’ll be exploring the secret life of Maggie Hogan.  Is she really planning on moving forward with her quest to start a campaign to homeschool animals?  What else could explain her newly released book: Christian Goats Explore Polar Regions.

                                                               Me and the Mags

I must say that I, for one, would support legislation to make homeschooling goats legal in every state.  I don’t know if HSLDA would take on that sort of litigation, but it sounds like it’d make a good Musical….

I start reading out loud, “yeah, they pronounce it Viva HSLDA” and keep reading on until…slowly…lights are finally coming on in my mind…hey…JENIG is totally pulling my musical leg! Why don’t you start your own Curry Can can JEnnY?

    WELCOME HOME!!!

Love those pics – you are just as lovely as lovely can be!

HEY! You should have had Doug Philips hold up a copy of the issue that I interviewed him in! 🙂

    No more convention for you!

You are definitely one sleep-deprived-crazy-goat-loving-booth-basking-strange-little-tormenting-sister. Well, the first part is true. The last part is pure speculation by big sister who knows all and sees all around these parts.

Interestingly enough, I just finished watching League of Grateful Sons. So now that I’ve seen a picture of you and Mr. Doug and I’ve seen/heard him on video, I can totally imagine him in an HSLDA musical!

Glad you survived the convention. At least I think you did.

    Love,

    Marshie

You are a major schmoozer, ya know?

No shame whatsoever. Missy schmoozer, thats you. :~)

Gee you look great and those are awesome pics. I am so glad you had such a great time, friend!

    Love,

    Very impressive!

Very impressive, Mrs. Ig! And just think, if we were to go to their blogs and websites, there would be a photo of them with YOU, and they would be all gushy about the fact that they had been able to meet Homeschooling’s greatest vernacular verbalisation innovator and etymological trail blazer. How cool is that?

    my new goal

in life … to be famous enough to meet you and get blogged about. You are fueling the fire of my lame dreams. And then I’d put that as my tagline on my blog, “famous enough to be blogged about by JenIG” …

now I just need to think of something to become famous for. Because becoming famous for wanting to be famous is really pathetically lame. Hm, maybe I could write a curriculum … what am I good at? Wasting time? No one needs a curriculum for that.

Anyway, I enjoyed seeing the inside of a Florida convention from your eyes! 😀

    Is it just me or…..

does the phrase “legal briefs doing the cha cha” make anyone else giggle? 🙂

Nice pics! If you do liveblog the Film Fest, I am pretty sure I would need to go and be your bodyguard…I mean, how would you blog while all your screaming fans were needing autographs??

And, one more thing…..last night as I was folding clothes, I had the overwhelming urge to pray for you and your sister. I know there are probably tons of things that go on behind the hallowed walls of the TOS compound. I truly hope you know that I appreciate the magazine, the work at conventions, this place to play with new friends. May God keep you and your family in perfect peace as you try to do His Will while working to educate and entertain homeschooling parents.

Oh yeah and *cough* code word: MPEKCMO-2007! We deserve a brunch too!

Jen – I just got home this morning, and to my dismay, Chik-Fil-A is NOT here offering me a chicken biscuit for breakfast. Apparently I’ve become spoiled from the FPEA food court (not to mention the high-class trough at the Villa de Rosa – …oh, happy days). Back to reality! It was terrific meeting you and Kate and Kris, and Kris’s husband (who tried to sell me a two-year subscription every time I got within 300 yards of him – give that man a raise), and all the other bloggers!

Now get some sleep, and don’t make me rap on that door at 2am, Missy!

    Whoo Hoo

Now I know where to come when I’m pathetically fishing for affirming fame comments LOL

I promise when I’m famous to let you know, and when you make it up to the INCH conference in Michigan (next year?!) that I’ll hang out at your booth like an annoying – whoops, I meant adoring -fan. Unless I’m manning my Time Wasting booth. LOL

What’s the smallest box you can fit in? I don’t know if Gena’s gonna ship you C.O.D and the smaller the box the cheaper the price. Hey, looks like I’ll get to see you in FL after all–WOOHOO…

PS~ Technically you won’t be my little sister though, you do realize that, yes no?

So what’s this about lawyers doing the Cha Cha and singing in their briefs? Are we sure that will be edifying? 🙂

Doug looked better when I met him. He was wearing this hat that reminded me of a barbershop quartet hat –maybe he plans to wear it in one of the musicals. ;aslkdfjl;askjdflasdflasdf

btw, I’ve totally given up on my free t-shirt. I think I must’ve dreamed it! lol

Oh! Oh! I met someone "famous" at FPEA too 🙂

While Jen was meeting all those celebrities of the homeschool community 😉 I was excited to meet JEN! After reading your great articles and seeing your pics in TOS and HSB, it was cool to see you in person. I’m glad you had a good time – isn’t the Gaylord fanastic?! It’s a good thing you were there…somebody has to keep Maggie in line 🙂 LOL

    Keep up the good work!
