There is a connection between the three. Here is a picture of our pond:
I think that's Coie up there in the boat. Anyways, you can't
really tell from this picture, but all around the pond there is a very
thick nasty smelling pond scum in agressively progressive
development. But I like it. It's fun to scrape off with a
rake. It's sort of akin to the satisfaction you get from digging
in your (or your kids') ear with a Q-tip.
Yesterday I
found out that peeling off hideously ugly wallpaper also produces the
same satisfying euphoria. Me and Emmiko peeled the whole bathroom
clear. It was sort of like picking a scab…. it was impossible
to stop until it was all completely removed. I wish I had a
picture of how ugly that wall paper was —words cannot express.
However, it did match nicely with with avacado green sink, toilet, tub
and rug.
Lastly, poor Coie…there is a story behind this; I'll share next post.

Congratulations. You have just achieved “beyond weird” status. Remind me never to have lunch at your house again.

Hmm…
Now you’re making me wonder again.
Mining for Gold in my children’s ears I can do anytime; the excitement is always new!
However.
The thrill of tearing down wallpaper, for me, only comes with the equal thrill and desire to eat Pickles and CoolWhip…in otherwords when I’m pregnant.
Hmmm………..?

now MY wallpaper
wouldn’t come down. I tried. I tried so. very. hard.
In the end I painted over it. HA! Take That ugly beige country charm wall paper!
I think I could peel some down in the bathroom. But I am afraid of what’s behind it.
My cathartic destruction job is pruning. I love to hack and whack down bushes. I am the Edward Scissorhands of … uh … some “special ed” preschool.
In other news, I have tomato sprouts growing. I took a picture as proof, since I’m likely to kill them. Or eat them. But I thought you might want to know, since it was here, on your blog, that I made my limited release debut as a gardner wanna be. Or something.

You are just the perfect person to come help me with my mildew on my walls and cracking paint. It’s so horrible, I was too embarrassed to blog about it.

Wow, that pond looks absolutely lovely, especially with all of the trees around it. I will be content…I will be content…I will be content… I wonder if .8 acres is enough room for our house plus a pond… hmmmm…
Ick about the wallpaper. Send me a pic of the nasty paper and I’ll show you what used to be in our dining/kitchen area. I bet ours is uglier than yours! Blech!
Have fun my little scum-raking friend! You are strange sometimes, but always fun!

Oo Oo Oo, I’ve got a good one—peeling off dead skin after you’ve been sun burned. That’s so addictive. Doesn’t even have to be your own skin! : o
Well, I don’t know about the wallpaper, but I can relate to the avacado green. Our downstairs bath had an avacado green toilet and sink when we moved in.. The kitchen was harvest gold appliances and floor with canary yellow countertops and very, very dark wood cabinets. Add the flouresant lights they had in there, and it would literally hurt your eyes. Do like I did. I asked for a new toilet for my birthday one year! Slowly, but surely, it all got replaced.
Good luck stripping—uh, wall paper that is!

Wowzers. That’s a beautiful pond. I can’t even see the scum from the picture. How do you get in the boat without getting scummed?

It’s nice to know there are other people in the world like me. These are exactly the sorts of topics that proper ladies never discuss and little boys do in great quantity.

Don't forget sin!
If you think scraping wallpaper is fun, you should get into confessing sin! It’s as stinky as pond scum and as gummy as ear wax, and sticks tighter than wallpaper–but once you get hold of it and it starts peeling off just right, it can’t be beat.
Here’s to the ONE who peels away the gunk in our life…

You are too, too funny. I once tackled a more-than-hideous bathroom wallpaper, and the wallpaper won. I will never paper a house. Paint is easier! Condolences on the avacado bathroom fixtures. Our friends have lovely chocolate brown ones…

Pond Scum
Jen,
Do you have any good algae eaters in your pond? Escessive pond scum is usually caused by excessive nitrogen in the water. Usually upstream animals. You can add bacteria that will help keep it down, or buy a bunch of catfish. Mother Earth News and Backwoods Home both probably have good articles on keeping your pond healthy.
Hope you are all well,
Love,
Jennifer

Aside from the NASTY Pond Scum ——
…. what a BEAUTIFUL pond!! wow.
I came here from an ‘old’ link from Spunky’s.. on youth groups. I liked what you had to say in the post, and I love what the anonymous commenter had to say…

We were youth leaders when we first got married, then we had children, and the awesome responsibility is too much to let anyone who does not have their best interest at heart be put into a position of authority.
Have you ever heard Doug Phillips’ “Sleeping Beauty and the Five Questions”?
Well, as always, sister… have a Blessed week.. and take care!
