A Day At Curry Farm

Today we were honored to have our friends, the Johnstons,  come over for a little field trip.  And talk about perfect timing; they showed up right as one of our little chickies was busting out of its egg! Since last night we’ve had a total of four hatch, and it looks like four more should hatch this afternoon.

After watching the chick make its appearance, the Johnstons got to see the new baby goats and check for eggs (not from the goats).  It was a real delight to have them, and their son, Joshua, is keeping two of the new little hatched chickies at his home for a couple of weeks.  What a blessing it is to have this place and to be able to share it with our friends.  If you’re ever in our area let us know; we’d love to have you over and show you around!

Today Geoff is picking up a new milking goat and her kid.  So starting tomorrow we will be drinking fresh goat milk.  And when I say ‘we’ I mean “everybody in the family but me”.  I not quite that courageous yet…

What a fun family. Honestly — It took me a while to want to eat our own chicken eggs but now that I've done it and survived I perfer them over store bought. I am not sure about goat milk though… if we end up milking our goats this year I am sure we will try the milk and if I survive I will let you know.

We're passing through your parts tomorrow on our way to visit THE LAND : )

    Happy Chick Hatching.

    Be blessed!

I am very curious what everyone thinks of the taste of goat's milk. Please let us know. I always seem to taste the goatiness of it. I can't seem to get over that flavor left in my mouth. Blessings.

    How fun!

Don't ya love chickens? I spent at least half an hour in the chicken yard today just turning over rocks so they could find the worms. It was very calming.

I'm not crazy about goats milk. Wish I was, it is so much better for us than cows milk.

    Have a blessed week!

I have not tried goat's milk before. I detest goat cheese since it has this very strongly weird flavor… Let me know what you think about it. I hear it's VERY good fer ya.

I'll stick with my moo milk for now though.

I'm not very couragous on trying goat's milk either. You would think after so many years in a foriegn country that wouldn't be a big deal. But I think goats milk is for cheese and not for drinking.

Have fun! The baby chicks sounds so exciting.

Goat's milk always tastes like goat hair to me. Not that I've actually tasted goat hair, but one can imagine. Of course, that was store-bought goat's milk. Maybe the fresh stuff is better… oh and there's goat's milk soap~! I sense a cottage business starting. If you make curry scented soap, I'll be your best customer :o)

Hey, what happened to the goat-eating-ferocious dogs?

    Goat milk

My friend who used to sell goat's milk says that the

key to better tasting milk is to chill it as soon as possible. The milk we bought from her did not have that goat-y flavor. Of course, when I heated it during the cheese making process, the goat-y flavor returned. To me it tastes like a stinky buck smells.

The gnocchis we made out of the cheese were good though!

    Goats and kids

My family has never had goats around. They've always been interested, but no space in the city. We did have chickens, however, and the whole neighbourhood came around to look at them. I've also never tasted goat's milk. Heard alot about it being healthier than cow's milk, though. But I don't really drink milk at all, so it makes no difference to me!

    Goat milk?

Your family will be drinking goat milk? I'm not even brave enough to drink soy milk!
