Jeneric Jeneralities ~ by JenIG

It’s true.  I confess.  I have total Garden Envy.  I am convinced that raised bed and container gardens, surrounded by a charming white picket fence, is *the* way to go for the Lazy, Incompetent, Nimrod Gardener i.e. ME.  I wish to have a garden that looks like this one (you’ll have to scroll down past the interview with the goat to see the pictures which hath provoked my great greenness of envy).

However, you will be proud to know that I have a mammoth tomato plant growing on my deck.  It’s HUGE.  It grows because we love it so much. Here is emmiko giving it a hug

and here are several colossal squashesses – both of the yellow and green variety.

I was afraid of overcrowding my plants; and now as you can see, in my non-crowding zeal, I’ve ended up with a relatively lonely rectangle of dirt. I imagine there is a life lesson buried in that illustration somewhere.

Ok, wake up you non-gardening types; I’m on to a different boring topic now.  There is an occasion to congratulate me, for in less than 90 days (among other things) our family will be proud recipients of full health insurance coverage.  This is on account of my tremendously excellent hard working diligent persevering handsome husband’s fabulous new job.  This week he is training in Atlanta, GA to become the Home Depot sales representative for the Sevierville/Morristown area.  This is a dream job, not only does he get an incredible health/dental and full benefits package, but he has tremendous flexibility in his hours as he gives bids for Home Service jobs. Did you know that Home Depot leads the nation in roofing jobs? Me neither. I now have a whole head full of knowledge about Home Depot and their Home Service department. They will also come out and do a superior job at installing siding/windows/fencing/insulation that’s guaranteed with an impressive warranty.    ::blink blink snap out of it, jen::

I am excited for my husband – AND it gets better because his direct manager is a very kind man who is a total believer with a heart for the Lord.  We are praising God for this incredible opportunity and I am very proud because my husband was picked to represent this area out of a whole slew of applicants.  Is that not exciting?  We are very happy and praising God for his kindness and provision.

PS Congrats to my little sister who has officially been Mrs. Preston for TWO WEEKS.  They just got back from their honeymoon cruise. I am excited for them.  Look at all the loot they got!  Aren’t they cute?

    Is that really your property?

sigh. Kristina was right…Tennessee looks pretty perfect. Alas, as I was going to read your blog and cluck my tongue in mock judgement at your garden envy, I instead find myself full of envy of the sloping rectangle of dirt…hmmm. excuse me while I rub this whack of compost out of my eye before I blow the speck out of yours.

    You Silly Goose

Some of the plants inside that white picket fence came from YOU!!

We've been trying to garden here for four years and finally this year it seems to be working.

Your garden looks great…(so does your sweet daughter!) and I may have crowded mine too much. (That's my plants, not my daughters).

We are going to put bricks or something around the beds so the vegies can sit on those because they are sure to expand beyond the boxes.

We are so happy for you all about Geoff's new job! What a blessing from the Lord!

See you soon… at he next "film shoot"

—By the way, Breakfast (the celebrity homeschool goat) was a bit offended that you brushed right past his interview. His ego was hurt, I hope he doesn't press charges against you.

Yes, Julie, the fact that some of those plants came from me makes it even worse!! They were started from the same seed so why do they look so much better at YOUR place?

And please give BHG my apologies. I do not wish to offend him, his fan base, his employees, nor his lawyers or webmaster. BHG doesnโ€™t have my husbandโ€™s new work address, does he? Tell him I have made a public apology and that when we come up this Friday I will bring celery, samples of sweet feed and several tin cans as a display of my terror, er, I mean, genuine repentance.

That is so wonderful about Geoff's new job, the insurance, and a Christian boss…God is SO good!

I think your garden looks GREAT!

You should see mine….It has a half eaten hosta, a droopy peony with ONE stinkin' blossom, and a bunch of wilted daffodil stems.

We had hopes of digging out the corner of our lot and making a flower bed there, but then we found out from the city that there are buried power cables there, and so I guess it's just going to stay a weed patch. ๐Ÿ™

Your little sister is adorable! Congrats to her!

Well, congrats to Geoff on the job. If he's like Matt, it'll be his most favorite job ever. Matt works part-time at Lowe's and *loves* it. I mean, he really loves it. He drives delivery, but I think it's the people and the way they give him the flexibility, too.

I love when you post pictures ofyour family. I think Emmiko is just a cutie! All of your children are. And I read Ryann's blog about James. What is up with that? I'm with Ryann…. YUCK!

We haven't posted too many pics of the garden yet. Jocelyn just posted a few…. I think it gets bigger every year.

I think it's better to spread it out like you have. Last year, I hated walking through our garden because it was so crowded. I think it also kept the breeze from blowing through it, which for us is a good case when you consider all the mosquitoes we have!!!

I hope you are doing well!

garden envy sufferer, at my worst

This year I didn't plant a garden at all. AT ALL. That is ridiculous…unheard of…UNFATHOMABLE. But, we may be moving this summer/fall and I didn't want to waste money and time without having the benefit of a product.

All my canning is being done by way of u-pick fields and Amish roadside stand produce.

It is sad. Just another bit of salt in my 'need to have roots' wound. Perhaps I will get a few cherry tomato plants to put in pots-my children and I adore freshly picked warm cherry tomatoes.

BTW~I love the trees you bordered your garden with. Those are cool!

    Wow, Jen

That's so awesome about Geoff's new job. Tell him that I said Congratulations and that I'm sure he's going to do an awesome job and love it! I'm sure all of his co-workers and customers will soon be saying, "That is the nicest guy!"

And on to the garden, well actually I hardly even want to speak the g word. We made a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE mistake in ours. Maybe there is still hope, but I don't know.

I love your log barrier for yours and oh my the white picket fence in the other blog garden – that's what totally pushes my envy button. Hi, my name is Nancy and I have fence envy.

My husband used to work part-time at HD in the garden dept. LOVED it! His favorite moment was chasing down a shoplifter in the parking lot.

Can't comment on your gardens. Although they look lovely, I don't "do" dirt, so what do I know? Your sister is very pretty though!

I am SO jealous that you have a non-weed-infested garden plot! WHATever. Shall I mail you a bit of Bermuda grass for old times sake? :+)

I have a fantasmic recipe for zucchini bread that all my children love. It is the primary reason for planting those greenish creatures here and we have already harvested and made bread many times from our tiny potted zuch plants. If you would like it, let me know and I will email it to you.

That tomato plant is something else! What a great skyrocketing plant you have there – what exactly did you plant it IN? :+)

Love you and CONGRATULATIONS to Geoff the Magnificent. He truly deserves a wonderful position and you all deserve the health insurance.

    Love you!

I'm jealous of your beautiful lawns and gardens (plants)!!

With the drought here, we've only been able to grow weeds and some sparse grass in the bottom of the canal beds! As for plants, everytime I get something looking good, my spouse puts a momma and her new baby in the fenced in garden so he can keep them close to the house! Needles to say, the plants don't stand a chance!! You r sister is very beautiful and looks very happy. Congrats to the couple!
