Jeneric Jeneralities ~ by JenIG

First of all, I am a bad friend.  I missed Annemarie’s birthday – even tho I had determined to remember this year.  Happy late birthday, my dear friend!

Another First of all, Praise God that our friends made it safely back from Ethiopia.  The Lord accomplished so much on this trip.  Please continue to pray that they would be strengthened and that God would continue to use them in such an unbelievable way.  The gospel is going out and lives are being completely transformed.  Eternal work is being done. Only the power of God can do that.  You can read about their incredible trip here.

Second, my amazing Coie, Ryann and Bobo single-handedly killed and skinned twelve chickens today.  It is astonishing what a 10, 13 and 18 year old can accomplish.  Our children are so much more capable than what we usually suppose them to be.  What a blessing – a freezer full of fresh, free range chicken.  Yipppeeee!

Third, a huge Happy Birthday to young Lady Julia Austin!  We are excited to see you guys tomorrow!  And for the rest of you, here is a clip of the Sherlock Holmes production they have been working on.  What talent!  You can see Ryann in it, too.  She’s the girl all tied up.

Fourth, last week I was inspired during our family bible time.  Geoff was reading thru 2nd Kings (ch 5) where this captain, named Naaman, with leprosy heard that Elisha could get him all healed up.  So he traveled long and far and showed up at his place and when he got there, Elisha didn’t come out to see him but instead just had the servants tell this guy to go dunk himself in the Jordan.  Well, Naaman was furious.  FURIOUS.  And it said that he went away in a rage.  But his servants went after him and appealed to him saying, “if the prophet would have told you to do some great thing, wouldn’t you have tried it?  So why not try this when he says ‘wash and be clean’?”  So, big fat crybaby fit-throwing Naaman finally went down and did what Elisha told him to do and guess what?  He was totally healed.  Is that not incredible?  Here you have a guy who is offered a priceless gift and instead of being thankful and having faith, he flies off the handle and has a big cow.  But what is even more incredible … is that even though he was such an ungrateful jerk, God STILL HEALED HIM.  I was dumbfounded at the grace and mercy of God.  Amazing.  As I was marveling over this, all of a sudden I shrieked out as an inexplicable pain shot thru my large toe; it took me several seconds to figure out that one of my sons had plucked out one of my unseemly toe-hairs.  And yes, while I acknowledge that ladies should not have hair growing on their toes, this is no excuse for people to yank them out unprovoked and without invitation.  The impenitent boy was squarely smacked in the back his big goofy head.

The End.

I laughed and laughed at the last part of your enry. Seriously! Was it James that did the plucking or my side walk licking brother?

Um, "Yipee" about the frozen chicken?I don't think so, especially since I don't even like to eat them. I think it's more like "boohoo".

BTW, I am the first commenter, that is, if no one snuck one in while I wrote this one out.

(I put "not telling" in the "from" line so that you didn't know it was me that commented when you get the E-mail, I wanted it to be a surprise comment, lol)

    Wow..

Your kids totally rock. I have no idea how to kill and skin a chicken, but it sounds like a lot of work.

God's grace and mercy is incomprehensible. I still have no idea why he saved such a sinner like me. And, do I sit around praising Him and thanking him continually as I ought? No, sad to say often I *still* often react like Naaman. Sigh.

    Love your blog. 🙂

I love eating chicken, but I don't think I could kill them. (I could handle the gross factor, but I would get too 'emotionally attached.')

I give your kids a LOT of credit…(and YOU too for doing such a fine job raising them!) :o)

    Blessings,

    Have I mentioned —

that YOU are a gifted and talented writer??!!!! ANd no, I am not schmoozing LOL!

btw – your girls totally ROCK for doing the chicken thing. I am too chicken for that! (I have to wear gloves to deal with frozen, boneless, skinless chicken fresh from the grocery store. ugh.) And I am here to say that I was *attacked* by a bat in my own kitchen last night!!! Where are your fearless kids when I need them? Hmmmm???

And I just read that scripture about Naaman as well — and God forgives even me, a rotten, stinkin' sinner!

    Praise Him!

Maggie* who has forgotten how to blog it's been so long…

What a great clip! Very talented! Especially since some of us have no editing abilities whatsoever.

BTW – I have named you a Rockin' Girl Blogger at my blog. Stop by to pick up your crown (of sorts.)

    Your kids are incredible!

We're going to kill 80+ chickens tomorrow (probably in the rain). Wish we had your young 'uns here!

Woah! Kids killing and skinning chickens. My girls won't complain about their animal chores when I tell them what your kids do for chores! 😉 Thanks!

I think God has mercy on our dense selves more times than we ever imagine. Thanks for sharing that story. It is helpful to me right now.

I just stopped in to say hi.

Ashley and James are back from Guatemala. She has a mission report on her blog, and I have more pictures on mine.

Hope to see you one of these days soon.

    Hey!!!

I've not been on HSB for quite a while, and I spent some time catching up on your blog. What a treat! It's a privilege to be able to share your walk through this world. I appreciate you and your family and your witness so very much. I'm dying to meet you all (and for BeccaLoo to meet you, too) But if that doesn't happen in this world, I'm thrilled to know that we have all of eternity to enjoy one another.

    Be blessed!!!

Thanks for the blogity birthday wishes, which I saw last week when you posted them, however, as I was poised to click post a comment, a shrill screech issued forth from one of my offspring which in turn caused me to spring forth from my chair forgetting that I had purposed in my mind to comment.

Wasn't yesterday HOT? When my air conditioner started screaming for mercy, I looked up the temperature on the internet and saw that it was a roasty toasty 94 degrees. (you didn't seriously thing that I went outside, did you?)

Our 8-year-old wants to know when the Sherlock Holmes video is going to be done. There is another Sherlock Holmes video on the Homeschool Video website that is fun to watch. It is probably more lighthearted than the one Ryann is in, though. Hers seems more serious… and a little spooky. Also, I'm amazed at your chicken-pluckers! I'm 45 and still just buy chicken breasts already cut up. None of those whole bodies that need dismembered for me! No siree! I'll let someone else do the honor. 🙂
