Snuggle Up With a Great Classic
And they’re back – hip hip hooray! As soon as they came home, the Preston Team of Utter Destruction slapped down Team Igarashi (without mercy) in a game of Bible Trivia (how rude). I’m pretty sure those cheaters rigged the game from the get-go. We’ll get ‘em next time. But before they came back, as the Prestons were jaunting around Ohio (yawn) we took advantage of those two days and got back onto schedule (i.e. SCHOOL). I don’t know about your family, but over here it’s hard to get thru the school hours without some sort of comedic mishap that ends up throwing the whole lesson into irregular spurts of snorting interruptions. In our history/government class (we use The Mystery of History – the absolute best history book I have ever used), we have just moved into the Classical Period (600 bc to 400 bc). Anyways, we got into a discussion about how if ‘ideas’, ‘philosophies’, ‘books’, ‘music’, or even ‘movies’ can withstand the test of time, then that qualifies them as a “classic”. So we started coming up with examples of classics – the ideas of democracy, equal representation, movies like The Wizard of Oz, etc. I asked the kids to come up with books that have withheld the test of time — ones that we would now consider a classic. Emmiko (who always tries the hardest to be serious during school) piped up with her suggestion of a book that had become a classic: The Dictionary. The rest of the lesson pretty much went downhill from there. |

Jen, I don't know how you ever get anything done. I'm going to tell my family about that one at supper tonight. Thanks for sharing. (still laughing) Karen

So you're gonna yawn at Ohiowa and get all excited about Mystery of History? Sheesh! Guess ya gotta be a California hillbilly or something. You'll be glad to know that Linda Hobar (author of the aforementioned) is from Ohiowa herself!

Jen, we share your sentiments about Ohio. And if you look at a map you'll notice that the shape of Ohio resembles a frequently used household object made of porcelain. And why you ask is it shaped like that? Because Michigan is sitting directly upon it!
Go ahead Jay, take a look and tell me it doesn't.

Are you calling me a Preston? Just because I was on their team, that doesn't mean I'm a Preston!
I'm so deprestoned that I'm not an Igarashi anymore.
BTW, when you got this comment in your email, did it say "posted be Me"?

Ryann, you are *such* a nerdy homeschooler. however, i highly appreciated your "depreston' joke. you obviously inherited your father's wit.

Spunky, I made a quick trip to the "loo" to check and your theory does NOT "hold water." Ohio is the most square (end to end) of all states, and the appliance in question is definitely more wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. However, if you wish to compare your state to a toilet tank, please be my guest!
BTW, I thought you quit blogging? Go away!

ok… hows about we compromise and say that Ohio looks like a toaster? surely there can be nothing objectionable or objectionable about living in a toaster state, yes?
PS Spunky, don't ever never go away

PS Spunky, don't ever never go away
Ok, let me fix this up a bit…'Do Not Ever Never Go Away'. So you want her to go away. Had you said 'Do never ever go away', it would have been the opposite.
Mrs. Spunky, even though Mr. Ryan and Mom want you to go away, please 'Do never ever go away', I like your blog. 🙂

Me thinketh Spunky hath quite the imagination!
I have been craning my neck trying to see what you are talking about on the U.S. map to my right, and for the life of me I can't see it! I must be de-imaginationized. It must be part of getting old. All I can see on my map are all the blogger/TOS photos that I have up there, you know, it's my stalker map. Hehe.
Anyway, I will just have to take her word for it, after all, she IS THE SPUNKY!!!!
(And I am very proud to have been in the same comment thread with her. 🙂
Love you Jen! (And you too, S., even though you have a different perspective on certain states than I do. ~From, someone in a boring old rectanglular state which doesn't resemble porcelain,

Hi Jen!
Haven't commented much lately anywhere, baby days and summer whirlwind consume most of our time, but just wanted to let you know that you are soooo much in my thoughts and prayers. Your love of the Lord Jesus and of your family; your graciousness through struggles; your sense of humor and candidness, etc., have all greatly endeared you to my heart. Keep plugging away, dear lady, and hold the promises of our Lord Jesus near and dear to your heart, like you evidently do, and your rewards will be great in heaven!
On another note, we LOVED MOH1, but are really trudging through MOH2. The kids and I just aren't diggin' it the same way. MOH1 sparked a love of History that I didn't know I had, and for that, I will always be grateful to Mrs. Hobar. We'll keep on w/MOH2 because I'm not about to tell my husband, who is extremely blessed to have a homeschooling wife that doesn't spend oodles of money on curriculum, that we need something else. Maybe it'll get better as we go through it. ooops…sorry for the ramble….
Go and love that precious family and your really cool sister and her really cool husband (what a gem he seems to be!!!) and we all will forgive you for using a double negative; we know that you love Spunky and DON"T want her to go away!
Love in Christ,
Christine Masloske

I'm not Anonymous!
Really! I just forgot my password again and besides I am at melisma2four's house with my totally adorable God-children – 4 – and my super-dooper bestest friend Melissa and I am flying back to DOVER today (Do you know who this is now???) and have to tell you that Ohio is not really a state. It is a large farm Really. I am sure. I know my geography. I live in DelaWhere? and am from "The Old Folk's State" shaped like a um, hmmm, panhandle??
Oh dear – seem to be rambling! Must be all the coffee I have consumed while here writing our COMPOSER's curriculum that is now officially "ALMOST DONE" and will be so much fun! But the caffeine is coursing through my veins and I must catch my plane . . .wait – that rhymes! Did you know I am writing a poetry curriculum as well? Seriously. I mean, really seriously – this is true. I am totally a poetry-geek.
Miss you! Glad you love MOH! More glad you love the Lord!!! and your dh and dks and your dsisters! Love that the ultra-Cool Prestons are visiting and wish that I were too. . . . If you get in on Illuminations you win a FREE trip to Delawhere (only if'n you can find it on the map!)

LOL!
Hey, but the girl has a point! In fact, a really interesting one. Spelling was not always static – and Noah Webster's was the first one to actually make it so. (At least those are the facts as I know them.) :+)
So really, your girl is using her noggin'.
Miss you!
