A Job Worth Blogging About
Yesterday I finally got tired of hearing James’ fat little legs kick against the bathroom cupboards while he struggled to get up to the sink. So I bellowed for my ten year old and told him to go out yonder and build me a pretty little step. I had several requirements: it had to be functional; it had to look nice; he would need to measure properly, find all of the tools required for the project and then clean up all the mess so that the area looked better than when he started. He told me, “Hmmmm, this will probably take several tries seeing how I never built anything by myself before.” So I told him, “Get to learnin’” Before long he was happily employed with boards, a handsaw, nails and a hammer. Soon after, Emmiko was brought into the project as Chief Painter and Decorator. In the end, it only took them one try, and I dare say it came out far better than I anticipated. So pleased was I, that I told them both – I’m going to show all my blogger friends what a good job you did because this is a job worthy to be blogged. Without further ado, I present to you, “Bathroom Step, by Bo & Em Ig”
In other news, holy moly… the butternut bread was a HUGE success.
And they cover all grades, so if you are about to have an academic aneurysm, that little link takes you straight to the page to get all the CLASS info sent to you for free (and they do not sell or rent your information, I know this because I’ve asked them about that before and they have a strict privacy policy). YAY!! I finally have a plan, an artsy bathroom step and six loaves of butternut spice bread. This qualifies as a **very** good day. |

I am feeling kind of stressed too, b/c Kaitlyn is ready for highschool now!!!
I know we cannot afford to use the program you described right now. YIKES.
I really like Barb Shelton's A Homeschool Form+U+LA. I am a bit worried about accurate record keeping though.
I am afraid that it is going to take kaitlyn 10 years to do 4 years of work b/c I am being so careful not to count that which I should not that I think I am NOT counting that which I should.
It will get easier, right?
I held Kaitlyn back in 7th grade b/c she was still dreamin' in La La Land and finally became more academically minded last year!
I think I am going to do the same to Jordan. They both have Summer bdays and and Jordan is mildly autistic so maybe "better late than early" applies here.
Also, I love the crocheting on the dish towels… do post more about that! I'd LOVE to learn how!!!
I soooo love to crochet!

And the CLASS program is more affordable than you might think. It works out something like $45 a month if you paid over a year. That's probably less than what we'd pay for cable iffen we had a TV

Good job to Bobo and Emmiko on a job well done! Isn't it a good feeling to be able to make something yourself (or the kids!), and not have to go buy it???
Yes, it's always a relief to have a plan figured out for school…my oldest (6) has a few years until high school 🙂 but I have thought about how to do transcripts and such. Right now we do My Father's World, and I plan on sticking with it through high school, but who knows if that will change in the years to come?
Oh, yeah, and the butternut bread looks YUMMY! I am going to have to try that sometime!

I just looked over the CLASS website and am VERY impressed. I am going to ask my hubby what he thinks when he gets home from taking two of the children to a water park! (a gift for Jordan's 13th bday)
I have a question though… I was trying to understand it from the website, but my eyes are getting tired from being on the computer too long today (on account of hubby and two of the boys not being here today… I went into couch potato mode!)
Anyway, my question is this:
(posted here rather than in a email b/c I'll just bet that other people have the SAME question!)
If you enroll for all four years of highschool… does this program cover everything other than Driver's Ed., State History, LAB science and Performing Arts? (I'm figuring that I'll have to do those separately).
Or will I have to buy lots of other stuff still.
Do they customize the program to your state requirements or do they just have a set curriculum?
This highschool thing is kind of scaring me… maybe I'll feel better when I get to the second child? (or maybe not!)

Home Depot building skills seem to run in the family! And now you also have a family heirloom that you're going to have to keep around for the grandkids one day. 🙂

Mr Bo and Miss Emmiko – NICE WORK!! I notice alot of details in how you made it that shows you put some thought into it, and the painting is symmetrical and colorful. I'm very proud to have such talented nephew and nieces.
Hopefully this will be your first project of MANY now that your feet are wet.
Or at least grass-stained. 🙂

I wanted to comment on the step. Very, very cool. But the mommy who inspired it? Even cooler. I love that kind of 'figure it out' thing. My dad always told me to 'look it up' when I asked him to spell something.
I am a great speller now……see? maybe you just started a carpenter on his path!

Dear Jen,
I miss you, you are such a fun person to be around, and it really comes out in your writing. I really appreciate all you said in your post about whining, unthankfulness. I, in trying to be developmental with my children(make sure they are feeling loved, having appropriate activities and tying strings)have definitely gone overboard some the other way. I have been noticing lately that my preoccupation with them feeling like they have enough, has tended to some of them thinking about themselves too much. God help us, parenting is a joy, but I definitely need his direction constantly.

I have been very near to an academic aneurysm, yes! I have one or two starting 9th. I'll have to check it out, thanks for the link and recommendations. I am very behind on getting the year started with any 'control' lol.
