How to Preface a Request

My son is not the best at asking for stuff he wants, or I don’t know, maybe he is.  I was sitting on the couch reading a book and he comes up to me with this suffocatingly sweet look on his face (I know you guys know that look – the one that means they want something) and says, “Beautiful mother?  I just want to let you know that I’m going to ask you a question, and you’re going to say “no”.  And why are you going to say no?  Because you love me and you care about my health”

Ok… so believe it or not, I did not bother asking him, “Well if you already know this then why must you bother me while I’m trying to read?”  No, instead (since his soliloquy made me snort) I was implicitly drawn into his scheme. So he continued….”you know, it’s sort of interesting — in a scientific sort of a way — that molasses mixed with sugar, which is then melted in the microwave, will actually turn into a liquid caramel that can then be poured over popcorn”.

No, in all actuality, I did not know that.  And then he just grinned ridiculously with his eyebrows up.  So, as expected, I was inclined to tell him, “have at it”. And so I wonder…does this mean, after all, that I do *not* care about his health?  I’m not sure.  He so utterly perplexed me.

In other news, my glasses came in.  I got a voice mail that said, “Hello, this message is for JEEEEEEEAN uh fur….  You can come pick up your glasses, sweetie, whenever it’s con-vene-e-yint   How can you not like somebody who is willing to leave a message like that?

In other news, I had a neat conversation with my friends over at Rosetta Stone. And it turns out… I maybe, might, could, perhaps, possibly, represent them at a couple of homeschool shows later this year, along with Coie.  I would like this for a number of reasons.  First of all, they really do have a fabulous program – matter of fact, in March they are unveiling a new upgraded version that is pretty incredible. Second of all, it would be a fun way to make some extra $$ without working full time or committing to being away more than a couple of weekends.  Third of all, have you ever been on a road trip with Coie? There is nothing funner on the planet.  Actually, I have to admit that a road trip with Kate may tie for first– good heavens that lady makes me laugh harder than anybody I have ever known.  As in, *seriously- afraid-for-my-health* type of laughing so hard.  So if you are planning a road trip, I highly recommend either of them.

But anyways, wouldn’t that sort of be fun doing a couple of HS shows?  We’ll see what happens.  At any rate, it was neat that they contacted me after being out of the ‘homeschool scene’ for so long.  This year is shaping up to be mighty interesting!

Whooopsies, and I almost forgot.  My brilliant entrepeneur daughter, Ryann, is selling a stack of 20 Mandie books (Bethany House), which used to belong to Coie, for 99 cents.  They can be found here on Ebay if you just so happen to be in a bidding sort of mood.

So hurry up and get those glasses on and post the picture that you just won't be able to keep yourself from posting…

    Did you just say funner?!

You know that's not really a word, right? Were you homeschooled?! He, he, he, snicker, snicker, snort…

That's cool about the Rosetta Stone thing- I'd love to represent them in a booth. We're using their Spanish and I'm hoping to get French and German and maybe Russian and maybe Chinese… if I had a million dollars… I LOVE learning foreign languages! Too much fun. They need anyone for a booth in Minnesota? huh? huh? Well, so cool for you, I hope it goes real well, great way to make a little fundage.

    Enjoy them all,

    ali

    Awwww!

It will not be the same without me. There will be no ___________ and no ___________ and certainly no ______________ and poor Coie, as lovely and wonderful and charming as she truly is, will not be able to make you __________________. And she knows nothing about soap.

    Your personal Florida Fact,

    :+) Kate

PS: I am not as excited about Roger as you seem to think I should be (yet) though I will say he seems a goodly man. I think he may be the only truly honest man in the whole bunch! Poor Paul Montague – I feel for him. He is a sucker and is likely to be suckered into something with the trollop, Mrs. Came From the Gold Fields and am Still Digging. And the name Felix reminds me of The Odd Couple. LOL I am nervous for Felix and Marie. I don't want them to be desolate if they run away! LOL

Oh man, what a smart boy you've got there. He is going to make an awesome husband one day… that is, if he can ever find anyone that could possibly compare to the wonderfulness that is his momsie. So did he really mix the molasses and sugar and put it on ze popcorn? Because honestly, caramel popcorn is my all-time favorite. Way better than even cheese popcorn or add-a-pound-of-melted-butter-popcorn!

So you and Coie (and Kate the Great!) need to road-trip yourself out here to Houston. Y'all can stay with me. Let me know when you'll be here and I'll be sure to get the guest room ready. Oh, and bring that little chef with you, okay?

    Jen,

I would love it if you came up to the Northeast for a homeschool convention. I would love to meet you.

I love the way your son asked for that wonderful caramel sauce for his popcorn. Way too funny.

    Blessings,

    Ruth

I'm hungry. Can I have some popcorn? Crackers?Peanut butter jelly sandwich?

I REALLY like the Austins jelly-have you noticed it's almost gone?

    Hey!

That sounds like fun to rep. for Rosetta Stone! I'm still looking for a work from home job that will not require me to push out lots of money just to get started.

Oh, um, yeah, Jess, I was going to call you yesterday but I was really busy (I also forgot). I'll try to call you today. But it's ok that I didn't call you–I probably would have gotten hungry since I like to ask you what you're having for dinner….

Hey! I hope you do a HS convention here in VA – Richmond would be good, or maybe the one in Chantilly. Do let me know where you'll be – if it's nearby I'll come!

    Fundraiser or Evangelist?

I'm wondering if your son is going to be a fundraiser or an evangelist? That was definitely an interesting way of asking for that. So, did it make caramel? Did he clean up his mess? Did little and big hands leave sticky handprints all over the walls? The suspense is wonderful!
