Sick and Homesick in Ohio
I’ll be honest, I expected Ohio to be heinous. I think it’s because me and Geoff drove thru Cincinnati and Cleveland during the winter months one year and I was opposite of impressed. It seemed very dingy and old and crowded and flat and cold. But Columbus Ohio in the summer has been pretty fun. Columbus has neat architecture and lots of sculptures, plus, it has people that I like. Kim Wolf and Spunky are here. Well, technically, Spunk is from MI, but the fact that she’s here makes OH even better. We had a fun time at Wendys. That was after we lost Spunky five times. We found her six times. That means we won. If you get chance, ask Kim what the guy behind the counter said… It’s also been amusing to have Bo and Emmiko with us. Yesterday we went swimming in the hotel pool. But the first day we got here was crazy. They had this biblical sized storm that woke us all up that first night we got here. Actually, the storm woke *me* up, and then in a frenzied panic I woke up Coie, Bo and Emmiko. There were tornado warnings and alarms going off and lightening was striking every two to three seconds (no exaggeration) and rain was jackhammering down from the sky – but the weird thing was, it was falling sideways. That’s not normal. I won’t lie. I was terrified. Actually… what’s a word that means “considerably more than terrified” ? — that’s what I was. Even Coie was nervous. And there aint nothin’ that makes that girl scared. Yeeeeps. But that was the extent of the excitement. It all died down pretty quick. In other news, it’s Dippy’s birthday this week. I love that kid. He’s getting to be such a big boy. We opened presents before we left and me and Geoff will take him on a special date when I get back from OH. I know everybody says how ‘fast they grow up’, but it really does amaze me.
On a non birthday note, our new dog Phoebe is weird. Coie went outside to check on the laundry and found her trying to blend in with the shoes. I think this might be my new favorite pet. And she has been doing a pretty fair job of chasing the goats away from my new planter box. She catches on quick. She must’ve heard me bellowing at the goats because took it upon herself to be my Azalea Guard. I wonder what other tricks she can do. And no, she’s not deformed or possessed. I had to blacken her eyeballs with photoshop because in the picture they were blue and glowing. At least… i don’t think she’s possessed. I’ll be glad to get back home. I wish I would have brought my guitar. I need to practice. I’m afraid I’m going to forget the new things my dad taught me. The coolest thing he taught me was the intro to Sweet Home Alabama. Snazzy. He also sang three part harmony with me and Coie. I’ll have to post that when I get back. I’m homesick. And I think Emmi is *something* sick. She just went in the bathroom to puke. I guess i better go check on her. gross. Our trip home might be a lonnnnng drive. |

Hey-
That package has your address on it. I can just about see it.
I did not like OHIO. It was indeed crowed and a bit dirty if you ask me.
Happy Birthday to Dippy!
Hope Emmi feels better.
I will have my guy send hima card.
Have a safe trip home!

Oh no! I hope Emmi feels better soon.
Happy Birthday to the Dipster!!!
And geeze, girl, you put so much into one post, I lose my train of thought before I can hit the submit comment button. Well, I wish I could’ve joined you for your Wendy’s food extravaganza… I’ll console myself with a bowl of generic fruity pebbles. :sniff:
Safe travels, Jen!
Love,
Marshie

eeeewwww….throwing up kids is my least favorite part of my Mom role. I am praying that she feels much better very soon.
Happy Birthday to Dippy! Is this the big 8? I think so. That makes me sort of weepy.

Yep, he’s eight now. what a biggie. And emmi is fine. Turns out it was a combination of little sleep and Wendys french fries.

Wendy’s looked yum. Our closest one is 20 miles away, so even with their dollar menu, the cost of gas to get there would make the trip a rip off. So glad you’re having a blast w/your kiddos. Your right, as often as you hear how fast they grow, it still blows my mind. Have a safe trip home!!

I just realized that you weren’t at the SMHEA fair! I thought you were going to have a booth there. In the morning, when I was working registration, I thought, “OH yay! I’ll get to see Jen today!!” And then I forgot, until just now. So I’m glad you weren’t there, because I would have been mad that I missed you!

Jen,
Wow..looks like you had an interesting visit to my homestate! I’ll have to ask Kim about that counter dude when I see her next. Yep..that storm was a humdinger, but the usual around here in spring/summer. They usually shake the house and have a great light show to boot. ha! ha! Sorry it scared you guys. Dont blame ya on your opinion of Ohio based off Cinci and ‘the Mistake on the Lake'(aka Cleveland) in the winter. Uck! Ohio’s much prettier OUTSIDE the city limits!

Wow. That’s a lot of excitement for one trip! Hope everyone is well and you have a safe trip back!

Pucking and a lightning storm, thanks but no thanks. I’ll pass. Glad to hear they are both over. From the sounds of things, we are living parallel lives in our quantity of busyness.
A very happy birthday to your son!
I had to laugh over the pretzel name, I’ve pictures of my kids doing the same thing. Those homeschoolers are so bright.
I think the dog is adoreable. We are planning a covert operation on my hubby to let our oldest have a puppy for her bday in Aug.
YOu should of been in Oregon, there wasn’t a Rosetta Stone rep there at all.

Hi Jen!
I hope you all made it back okay; lots of storms in the midwest right now.
Just wanted to let you know how excited we all were to get the latest issue of Home School Enrichment in the mail the other day! It was fun to go flipping right to your article and to know that all of the readers in the house were anxious to read it! We’ve all been blessed by it and are grateful that your work is being published again! The rest of the issue looks wonderful as well!
Love in Christ,
Christine

hahahahahaha…Sorry Jen, I’m having trouble calming down from seeing your husband walking out to your car (at church) with 3 kids at hand and as 4 year old walked his pants slowly crept down to his ankles. How cute was that! Thanks for making my day 🙂

Sounds like you had a blast…but then, it always sounds that way! It must be you…you are a blast! 🙂
Ooooh…I had forgotten you were going to be in Home School Enrichment….I sooo need to get a subscription to that magazine!! I LOVE your writing!!!

Your pup sure is cute, and your kid too! 🙂 How great that you got to take a trip this summer, and hopefully didn’t have to sell any limbs to pay for gas. Next time you’ll have to come to central PA and I’ll show you around if you show ME how to play the guitar!

Nancee…. DEAL!! that would be great fun.
Laurie… you’d be surprised how dreadfully dull I am in person. seriously!
Megan… that is SO funny. I did not hear about that. Too bad you didn’t have a camera. Ida liked to see that! hahaha

I look so enthused in that picture, eh?

Hey Girlfriend!! What a BLAST to FINALLY meet you after so many years of blogs, e-mails and the occasional business phone calls. And I was NOT disappointed. 🙂
I’m surprised you were so afraid during that storm…the most afraid I’ve ever been in a storm (other than a tornado I was in) was in the hills of KY…being in a thunderstorm that high up was really frightening! By the way…that sideways rain is called horizontal rain. Wicked, huh?!
Hope you enjoyed CHEO and that it was worth your time. I had a blast at Wendy’s…wish we could have done something Saturday, but Balinda and I needed to get home. Get this…Sunday, after church, some friends of ours and our family went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant. JUST AFTER I had told them the story about the guy taking my order (fledder, fledder, flubba, fleb)our VERY Mexican waiter came up and as he was taking my order I, of course, couldn’t understand him and was having him repeat everything her said. The dad in the other family leaned over to me and said, “fledder, fledder, flubba, fleb…” and we all just fell apart w/laughter!! The poor waiter didn’t know what in the world was going on! But I finally found enough breath to finish my order. What goof-ball!
Tell Coie, Emmi and Bo “hi” for me. I SO enjoyed meeting them and wish Jasper &/or Jenna could have come w/me, they would have enjoyed each other so much. Tell Emmi – the maze queen – that my family was VERY impressed w/her maze! It was awesome. Hope Dippy had a great b-day.
Like Heather said…next time you come to Ohio (and any of you other readers :-)), you HAVE to get off the beaten path! Like I told you…come to my house and I’ll show you around – city or country – but we live in a rural county. The house in front of us has a deep front yard and deer come up to the road early in the morning. Just w/in a mile of my home you can see deer, foxes, coyotes, and there’s even an elk farm! At any time here, you can see red-taled hawks, owls, kestrals (sparrow hawks) and the like fly over. Plus TONS of other wild-life. You would love it.
Hope you all got home alright…miss you already!!
Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<

Hi Jen~
I received my complimentary issue of Home School Enrichment too. I immediately checked to see if you did have an article in it and there it was! I have not been able to read it yet though. 🙁 I have to get the mowing done first. I guess it will be a treat later this evening when work is over. 🙂 I’ll comment again once I read it. I am pretty sure that I will go ahead and become a subscriber. I’m excited to be able to read your articles again. My husband and I really appreciated (and can relate) to your testimony article (it was in an issue TOS).
Hope you have a great day!
Angela 🙂
