Jeneric Jeneralities ~ by JenIG

I feel like Kellieann, I never give movie reviews.  None-the-less, here it goes.  First of all, I recommend taking Ryann to any movie you attend.  I had more fun listening to her laugh her head off than anything else.  She and Bo are so similar.

Anyways, it is Emmiko’s birthday this week, so Geoff the Great and I decided to take her on a movie date.  We all loved the first Batman… Batman Begins.  Matter of fact, the first time I ever saw that movie was on a double date with Kate Kessler and her man.  Boy was that was fun.

Anyways, we really liked the first Batman so we’ve been looking forward for The Dark Knight to come out.  Geoff took Ryann and Coie on Sat night and I stayed home with the little kids, and then on Monday night Geoff took me, Ryann, Emmiko and Bo, while Coie held down the fort

Personally, I liked the movie – violence does not generally faze me or my family.  The Patriot and Master and Commander are a couple of our favorite flicks.  Violence / Grossness = not generally a problem.  And ‘violence’ was really the only thing in the Dark Knight that was an issue.   There was no swearing and almost zero romance.

There could have been *more* violence during the movie, but I controlled myself.  The guy sitting behind was eating his popcorn really loudly – but what made me nearly come unglued was he kept sucking his teeth. Loudly.  Very loudly.  Right in my ear.  I had an urge to swing around and karate chop him in the jugular.  And then, right as the movie started, this human Q-tip came in and sat directly in front of me.  I’ve never seen such puffy white hair on a man.  It was literally obstructing the screen.  So I got up and went to the back of the theater and tried to eyeball an empty seat where nobody could bother me.  But the place was packed out.  So I ended up standing at the back for the three hours.  Actually, that’s not true.  After about two hours I finally got bored of standing and I sat down with my back against the wall.  It was nice.  I had the whole wall to myself.  My husband came back a couple times to offer me candy and to tell me I was a retard… as if I didn’t know.

All in all it was a lovely date and we all had fun.  Bo liked the movie, but the violence did bother him.  And I confess, in a couple of places it was a little over the top.  Emmiko thought the movie was great and Ryann thought it was hilarious.  I think I would have enjoyed it more as a rental. On my couch. Minus Q-tips and Teeth Suckers.

In other news, I got to spend Sunday with two of my favorite families Plus I met a new family that was entirely hilarious.  Maria’s sister is very cool.  Boy was it hot, but we still had a smashing time.  I love my friends.

oh. disregard my email. you just answered all of my questions. well, at least you GOT to go see the movie. We also went last night, but there wasn’t a seat in the house so we ended up getting our tickets switched to this afternoon. I’m looking forward to seeing it as well.

Hm, I just might give it a chance now that I read your review. I too loved Batman Begins. I was afraid this one might be too much, based on other reviews I’ve read. I’m not a fan of gore, but this one seems to be more mentally weird than anything. Thanks for the review, and sorry about the tooth guy and your q-tip.

Jen, you are so funny! Anyway, sorry about the tooth sucker and q-tip man. That sounds like 2 guys from a weird superhuman flick or something…..

Also, I think you need to just remove the “.com” from the end of Maria’s blog name. It works for me then.

Also, also, I nearly fell off my seat laughing at your Self story. That is laughing at your humor not at you and what you went through. Like I said you are one funny chic! 🙂

    Have a great day!

Glad you liked it…we’re going to see The Dark Knight Saturday at an early show. We try to go to the popular new movies in the early afternoons to avoid the crowds and make sure we CAN see it…the risk of sell outs are far less that way.

Patriot and Master & Commander are 2 of my favorites, too! (Plus Braveheart, plus Open Range, plus Lonesome Dove…w/The Quiet Man thrown in for good measure…I like adventure, but my FAVORITES are Westerns.) I LOVE the music in Master & Commander and…well…Mel Gibson is just plan purdy. 🙂 And I like “pretty” actors who aren’t afraid to look gross or stupid. It tells me that they don’t take themselves THAT seriously.

    Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<

It just so happened that I married the worlds most out of toon man when it comes to ANYTHING in the entertainment industry. When we were first getting married I thought he just wasn’t that into entertainment, but then I recently came to find out that he has never seen all the staple movies that every secular kid growing up in the 80s & 90s saw. Here is the list of Ryan’s misfortune:
    Sixteen Candles
    For Keeps
    Breakfast Club
    Back to the Future

The list would go on and on. He can’t even remember the last time he went to a theatre which is probably smart cause every time I ask him about his past happenings, it always seems to involve an ex-girlfriend. Glad you enjoyed the movies, lose the q-tip and tooth-sucker next time. You should have pulled one of batman’s moves on them. Then they would have just thought it was an interactive movie! 🙂

I HATE hearing people eat. I’d have been driven nuts, especially when I am pregnant and have super human senses. Especially the hearing and the smell.

    Dear Jen-
My blog is still up there.. You need to not include the .com at the end.
    It’s still at
I haven’t updated in a while so you need not bother visiting anytime soon.

We read Carry on Mr Bowditch by John O’Hara Cosgrave II (what a name!) about the same time we watched Master in Commander. Most people I talked to that enjoyed master In Commander also enjoyed the book. Have you read it?

hi Laurie! nope, never read it, never heard of it. that may be something I need to add to my “need to read” list. : )

You + Me = Kindred Spirits.

I would have had to go all Batman on the tooth-sucker, too. GROSS!!

It sounds like the only thing missing from your movie-going experience was someone yapping on their cell-phone the entire time. Always love that.

Yes, I highly recommend Carry on Mr Bowditch. We did it as a family read aloud, and even my husband loved it. It took longer to read because ,at his request, we read it when he was home. Sometimes I read aloud, sometimes he did. Here’s a link to read more about it. It kept the interest of a 12 yod,7 yod and two adults. Every person we have recommended it to LOVED it.

Yikes! I wrecked your blog. Sorry!!! Didn’t realize the link would do that (blush)

thanks for the link! and no, that didn’t wreck anything — it looks fine to me. you’re silly.

Really? On my screen the long link made all of your comments go wide. Now I am very computer illiterate and naive so I would believe you if you said it was only my screen showing it. Anyways, have been following your blog for a long time and post the odd comment here and there. You have a great writers voice (just learned that term so am looking for excuses to use it :o)) .

Oh, I should also add my son is also a huge fan of the Kingdom’s series. He just read the first Sir Kendrick book and is anxiously awaiting the next one. Do you know when it’s due out?

I don’t know about anyone else, but I think Laurie is right that the link *did* actually make your post and comments (when someone clicks on ‘comments’) go reeeeeallly wide across the screen. And I miss you. This rain is actually starting to get to me. It hasn’t quit raining since yesterday. We bought Vantage point. You should come over and watch it with me. love jess, your bored sister.

I KNOW you’ve seen Vantage Point, but not with MEEEE. Well, I don’t care. I’m half tempted to get pregnant just so you’ll GET UP HERE. I miss you! Is Coie still gonna come up here with you when I have a baby?

Awww. Poor Ryann. Tell her that she’ll have to come up with Coie sometime when i’m not giving birth so we can actually have some fun. that way you’ll be there to babysit. Wait. That wouldn’t be ‘babysitting’ then, just staying home and doing what you do. haha

Hubert, just be more romantical. i’d like a nephew to start with, and i’m not opposed to having twin or triplet nephews. Ryann says she doesn’t want a cousin named Charles. I rather like the name Charles. We can call him Glenny for short.

    Hey Jen!

This morning Ryan was making his bagel and was reaching for our grape jelly when I confiscated it and reminded him of the homemade plum jelly sitting on our counter. Hey was a little unsure since we have never had plum jelly and didn’t really know what it would taste like. It gets two thumbs up! He really liked it and I tasted a little and liked it also. Thanks so much. Once I get some jars maybe you can teach me how to make strawberry preserve.
