I Love Jesus (and Cute Boys)
They are selling a t-shirt that says that here at the Christian Book Association convention in Denver. This may be the last time I come to one of these events. I don't know that i've ever been so discouraged with the state of the Church. A pastor here gave a sermon where he made the case for living and looking like the World, so that the World will feel 'welcome' around us. He talked about going up into the mountains and partying with a bunch of unbelievers so he could relate with them and then tell them about God. Perhaps they genuinely love the Lord; I will not presume to judge their hearts. But their methods are dead wrong. We are not to look and act like the World. We are called to be separate. We are called to be holy. We are called to love others and to tell them the TRUTH; we are not called to conform to the World and compromise in order to be accepted by the World (in hopes they will not be turned off by our message). It says we will be persecuted and mocked by the World. Jesus said that if we belong to Him the World will hate us, like it hated Him. Why is the Church trying to make the World love us? Are we to conform to the World? Or are we to conform to Christ and live a life of love and holiness? |

For Real?
Are you serious about the t-shirt?
on July 12th, 2005 at 8:58 pm
Yes, the shirt was totally inappropriate!
I am here with her and we have seen some questionable products that companies are trying to market to professing Christians. Another one we saw was "I love God" and below that caption it said "(and cute boys)" I don't get it? Is this supposed to be funny? To me, it promotes promiscuity and that is NOT something that I will buy into for my girls. I pray that God will open their eyes and allow them to see the err in these products. We are called to keep ourselves (our hearts) pure until the time when He brings our prince (or princess) into our lives.

I love Jesus (and cute boys) – wow – what does that say about Jesus? Last time I checked, cute boys didn't die for my sins.

You're assuming that all the people at the convention are Christian. Don't make that assumption. Just because you go to a Christian booksellers convention doesn't mean you are a Christian any more than going to McDonald's makes you hamburger. That's from Keith Green 1980.
There are always wolves in sheeps clothing. It is doubly sad though when we see sheep in wolves clothing isn't it.

I'm afraid we will see more and more of that kind of thing. The church as a whole is getting more like the world in order to bring people in.
God has called us to be different. People will ask us why we are different from them! They will not ask us what makes us different if we follow along with them. The world is looking for answers–not followers.

This is a good example of churches and denominations changing to suit the social institutions and the current p.c. social attitudes, rather than staying true to the word of God and the teachings of Christ. The p.c. crowd seems to be trying to hijack christianity to include everyone, rather than people reading and studying the Word to become what God wants us to be.
It is sickening to read about that tshirt..to put the Son of God on the same level as a cutesy, boy crazy slogan is troublesome. To me, that is like using the Lord's name in vain…complete disrespect for Him.
These are the times when I just want to go live in the middle of 1000 acres and not see, read, or hear anything from the outside world! But I'd miss hs blogger way too much!

So sad
Just another example of how the world desensitizes folks and slowly deceptively leads people away from the truth. Just like Satan tempted Eve with the good ol' "surely God would want you to have an apple" routine; He's still tempting folks with those ideas that they can keep a foot in the world and a foot in heaven. Smells like Satan's coming after the "nice homeschool kids". We've just got to pray and keep our guard up while teaching our kids about discernment. It's almost a shame that the Convention Sponsors didn't ask them to remove the offensive merchandise, but if it was an "inclusive" type event it might not have even offended them. Maybe you all could have just gotten some cute t shirts printed quickly that said something like "I love Jesus and want to honor Him" and just happened to walk by the booth a lot! : )

Separate, deliberate, singled out, and counting it all joy…
I saw the same shirt when I went to a homeschool convention here in PA. It saddened me, and I saw much 'mocking'- Christian and homeschooling alike, at the same convention.
My take (ala Keith Green too!), is better to be offended by the Gospel (and the messenger who carries it to you) than to be eternally lost, separated from God.
I figure if someone is offended by the truth (Gospel) then their hearts and minds are not so singed as to not have a conscience. And that is fertile ground for the Holy Spirit to sow God's seeds of forgiveness and His saving grace. Some of the most anti-God people are the ones having the biggest battles waged for their souls.
Count it all joy!

I'm with you on this!! It is awful.
Jen,
I was just reading the CBA magazine for retailers… Christian Retailing. They have an extremely *positive* article about a new book titled "The Christian Case for Gay Marriage".
It makes me so sick…
And did you know Zondervan is owned by HarperCollins? HarperCollins San Francisco published THAT book.
I think we will be able to throw the baby out with the bath water on CBA at some point.

Forgot to mention…
That was the sub-title of the book.
The main title is "What God has Joined Together". 🙁

Amen, Sister. I'm sickened by the worldliness and blasphemy in the "Christian" retailers and "Christian" entertainment. It makes me wonder if it's all fueled by the love of money. God called us to be different- to look different and to act different. Surely God is disgusted by it all. "Friendship of the world is enmity with God"- James 4:4.

I yi yi!
Here here to what everyone else commented!
That is really sad and sick. Stuff like that, and what Heather I. commented on takes "Christ Follower" out of "Christian" and puts Christ buisness! Bah Humbug!

P.S. Looking forward to later today!

Hello!
Hello! Thank you for saying hello on my blog. It is nice to "meet" you here.
What a shame about that t-shirt!! I have noticed that a lot of people seem to think that everything is okay as long as they SAY they love Jesus or are a Christian. There is just so much more to having a relationship with Jesus than that.
Blessings to you ~ Robin
P.S. I look forward to getting to know you bettter here!

All I can do is…
Groooooaaaan. I'm afraid that this is too true of the Church. That T-Shirt is crossing the line…I can't say that it's super common. It's a shirt that makes me groan and bang my head on the desk. But I don't think the whole Church is like this…but it surely could be headed there. It really is that "I don't want to let go of the world" thing. I must say it really is hard…what looks better? But we have to remember it only looks better…it really isn't.
My 2 cents.

Be All Things to All Men
It's a misunderstanding that so much of the church makes. Instead of a city on a hill shining His light as a bright beacon, they seek to be a flashlight (or red light!) in the valley. It can be easier and more comfortable. And it's very sad.

This is why training our children..
This is why training our children is soo important. The girls and the guys need to be able to see something like this and know immediately if it is Godly or worldly. May we all take this task seriously even more so in these days!

YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, Honey…I couldn't agree with you more!!
We went to a church for 11 years and finally had to leave (9 years ago) when the pastor started playing secular music in-between the 4 services. He was so excited and asked me what I thought about it after church. I told him, "It makes me want to lay back with my tunes on the player, a brewski in one hand and a doobie in the other" (I didn't become a Christian until I was 23 – unfortunately, I was quite the partier). He was SHOCKED! I said, "I like the Doobie Brothers and the Eagles, but NOT in my church." Paster: "But don't you think it'll make new-comers who aren't saved yet feel more comfortable?" Me: "You know, when I was a pagan and I went with a friend to church, I KNEW that I would hear the Name of Jesus while I was there and I wasn't going to be surprised or offended. Don't you think they'll know what kind of building they're in, too?" He WASN'T pleased with my comment.
Since what had been a fantastic church was trying to go the "mega show church" route and praise and worship was becoming a show we "did" 4 times every weekend, I had to quit. I had been on the praise team 10 of our 11 years there. BUT…the LORD IS GOOD…where we've been for the last 9 years is home. Sometimes we just need a nudge to get us out and to where the LORD wants us.
Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

That grieves my heart. Our precious Holy God died for me and He is being mocked by His bride.
