Who's Yer Mama

My Valentine’s Day present has sparked up a little competition.  I’ll get to that in a second.  First of all, I’d like to let you know why I woke up so happy.  Lately, my daughter Coie has been getting a little too confident.  She says things like, “hey mom, wanna wrestle?  I can take you down, mom, I could totally take you down”

Now, to be perfectly honest, I believed her.  I mean after all, she’s been welding, lifting heavy furniture, changing car tires, etc.  She is one tough girl.

So last night when we were playing pinochle with Paulie (trying
to play pinochle with Paulie … he’s still learning), Coie starts
taunting me again, this time with, “Mom, let’s arm wrestle”, to which I
most profusely declined.  I’m no dummy.  But she kept it up, on and on, and Geo and Paulie started chiming in to ‘go for it’.  So with much fear and trepidation, I arm wrestled her.  And to my utter surprise, I beat that girl bad.  I whooped her down big time.  Then I whooped her down with my left arm.  Yep, that’s right.  The mama is still in charge.  I woke up this morning and it was the first thing I thought of.

Anyhow, before that, Geo had pulled out the scale that he got me for Valentine’s Day and we all took turns seeing how fat we are.  And then Coie tells me, “I bet I could lose ten pounds faster than you”.  See? There she goes… I have no idea where she got so competitive.  So now me, geoff and coie are in challenge.  Naturally, I figured I’d see if any of you want to join our contest.  We will weigh in once a week and then on March 16th we’ll see who has lost the most.  Post your weight below if you want to check in with us every Sunday.  If you dare.  I dare you.  Yep, I double dog dare you.  I triple dog dare you.

Jen: 148

Coie: 146

Geoff: 207

PS after I whoooped Coie in arm wrestling, Geo whoooped his strong strapping nephew Paulie Doodle.  My man is *so* strong

There is no way that y’all weigh what you say you weigh! I think you have purposefully fluffed up your beginning weight so you can magically lose it by Tuesday. And I know because I have seen you, my dear friend. You and your whooped-up-on daughter and muscley-husband. No way Hosea that y’all weigh that much!

And if you like, Coie can send me some more candy so I can totally and completely LOSE this contest!

Hey, I lost 30 lbs in the past year, I’ve got nothing to prove (going from “really fat” to just plain “fat” — one’a these days, I hope to work my way down to “overweight.”)

Glad you can still wup the kid. I told my kids, I dont care how old they are, even if they’re adults living on their own — if they need a spanking they can count on me to give them one.

I wish you’d have a contest for who can put the most on the fastest because I know I’d win that one. Furlough is killing me with everyone either taking us out to eat or fixing us wonderful meals. I’m not entering your weight loss contest because I am afraid to step on the scale. AHHH!!

I’ll take you on. (Y’on? Is that how y’all say it in Tennessee?) I’ve been eating way too much junk since, ummm, I won’t say since when. Let’s just say if I end up with 20 extra pounds after every baby I’ll be outweighing my husband soon. So, I need to lose some more before I get prego again. I’m at 127, but it’s all in the hips and I want to wear my pre-prego pants again. Whaaaa. A little good healthy competition may be just the thing!

I would love to lose those extra …mumble… pounds, but you must be smoking that green Tennessee grass if you think I am going to post my weight on HSB!

    i agree with marsha

unless you and your daughter are like 7 feet tall those weights don’t seem correct to me. in your face shot i just don’t see it. besides your sister just told got the looks and the body not too long ago. i would post my weight but you would throw stones at me. i don’t weigh much but i have this very soft doughnut of fat around my middle. i hate it. i’m not going to diet but i will swear to walk and lift weights a few times a week for moral support and to firm up. is there any real way to firm up the baby tummy?

I am supposed to be on blogging hiatus until Tuesday, but I had to sneak a peek over and see what shenanigans were going on.

ROFLOL…me, post my weight for all the Internet to see? I don’t think so!! I only weigh myself behind 2 closed and locked doors, with the shutter in the w/c room closed tightly (in case the neighbor across the driveway has highpowered binoculars in his upstairs window trying to read the scale). In addition, after the weigh-in, the little slide bars are moved down to zero. I will give you a hint… know what you weigh….148…that’s the weight written in on my birth certificate. However, I will be a “silent” partner is this…one question, is that March of 2006? 2007? or 2008? I”m trying to figure out if I go on the 100 calorie/day, 5,000 calorie/day or 10,000 calorie/day diet.

    posting weights and pinochle

Okay, so if none of you want to post your weights, why don’t you just post how much you’ve lost? And promise to tell the truth, of course. Sounds simple to me. I won’t call you wimps for whining, though; at least you’re all willing to talk about it in a very public forum.

As for you, Jen — even though I’ll probably never get to play you, I’m always overjoyed to discover more pinochlers! Can you play that over a computer, like others play chess? Hmm…

Yeah, I was doing it anyway, so I'll take you up on it!

Just had baby number 5, and for the first time, have some, uh, welll… flab…! Quite depressing, since I’ve prided myself on being thin, even when not in shape. Oh, well. I’ve already made a little chart with 260 boxes on it – one for each time I will exercise in the next year. And my weight yesterday was 152 – appalling! (Of course, my dh is of the opinion that obesity is caused by a virus, which would explain why he, I, and two of our sons have begun to be a little chubbier than usual just recently! I think it’s because I’m finally learning to cook, and we all like it!) Anyway, I’m with you! Hmmmm…. maybe I’d better go fill earn the right to fill in one of my 260 little boxes!

    Weight Loss

All Ya’ll are makin’ me ROFL with this weight loss stuff! Posting my weight on the web would be the nail in my psychological coffin!! Then they’d KNOW I was nuts!!

I’m working on the same goal. I’m having a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks. How much do you think an old, tired, worn out uterus weighs? 5 pounds? Ten?

    I’ll let you know!

Well, if things work out the way they say, I should lose a whole bunch of weight on March 16th! I could probably win this thing! Of course…you never, know, things usually don’t work out the way they say. Hehe, I’m referring to the birth of my second child, due March 16th. But because it is a second pregnancy, and very VERY soon after my first, I’m not going to post my weight!

LOL… sure… I’ll take you ALL on… However, MEN should have to lose an extra 3 lbs. to be contenders. They seem to burn more calories per movement than women do.

    I’m a whopping 180 lbs! I’ll get down to 170 by mid-March.

    Bring it on!

    Many blessings!

Wow… I posted before I read anyone else’s comments. I can NOT believe how proud y’all are! Silly, silly people! Just post your weight. C’mon. I already said I was 180. And, no, I’m not 6-feet tall. I’m height-challenged at a gigantic 5-feet 2-inches. I wear size 18 clothes. Strangely, though, my face doesn’t show my weight, and neither do my hands, wrists, or feet. I can still wear the same wedding ring I received 13 years ago when I was 130 pounds. All my weight is between my neck and my ankles. LOL.

C’mon… post your weights! Whaddaya gotta lose? Oh, that’s right… weight!

    Blessings again,

My dd is almost 15 she is 5’6″ and weighs about 128 but she is built! the girl is nearly solid muscle! Her daddy can’t even tickle her anymore because it takes two hands to get her arm up (she’s only ticklish on the armpit)

I’m 5’8″ and 40lbs heavier than my goal weight of 135. & I’m flabby! she could take me in a fair fight & I’ve told her so. But I’ve also warned her not to try it. ‘Cause Mama fights dirty!

Is this about extra pounds or about Valentines chocolates? Sorry Valentines is so difficult for you. I have to wonder how it became so painful. Probably Gena got more Valentines from her friends. Maybe your parents gave her the 2lb box of Russell Stover while you got the 2 oz box of chalky pastel hearts, with not so subliminal messages like Bye, Gena is Sweet, U R Not. (Those were probably really from your sister and she signed your moms name!) Anyway, I really do have a sister named Gina too. My Gina is prettier, kinder and smarter than her little sister (me) , so I know how you feel. (Perhaps a great sister has given you a complex about other great women–hence that animosity towards Laura Ingalls and Anne Shirley.)

As for eating Valentines chocolates (I know they are coming since little daughter told me ssssshhh don’t talk about the surprise chocolate heart), I will remember Luke 19:16 “Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.” My pound of chocolate will surely turn to ten. I’ll not let my “heart be troubled” but remember that my hubby is my treasure and Luke 12:34 tells us For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

May God Bless each of your endeavors to take care of your body! Truly. Lilacs

I will join but I will loose! I will loose the challenge, but not the weight. I have been working hard at loosing weight for 10 weeks now… this is the 11th week. Except that I took last week off to throw myself a PITY PARTY and I plan to eat desert on Valentine’s Day, but other than that I have been SOOO good and have not lost one single, solitary pound!

Who knows… maybe this is my week to start loosing?

    FAT chance!

    hehehe. Get it?

Really-I WOULD do it…but I CAN’T do it until Baby Peanut is no longer bellybound…which will be in April. SO. I am off the hook. For now. 🙂 Anyway-Not really sure why you gals (or hubby for that matter) WANT to lose weight since, by golly, you are all so thin it is turning me green….

On an entirely different subject: you wrote that Gena planned to give a book to all who had promised to blog about it. I was just wondering what the status is on that. Do I need to give her my addy or does she know it already? And if she does-how does she have such magic? Well, I have never done anything like this before so I just don’t know. OKay. So that’s that.

Good luck with the weight loss thing. (Man-you ARE brave to post your weight for all the world-I guess it is pretty easy when it is only NEARLY in the three digits! 😉 That is the polite answer. The wee little tip of my heart says…”I hope you lose none at all you silly skinny girl!” 😉 WAhahaha Rebecca (

    Losing Weight…

Reading your post and then all the fun comments to go along with it, has provoked my girls and I to talk seriously about losing weight.

I want to encourage ya’ll before you start, to pray and ask the Lord to give you the grace to accomplish your goals…I have 5 children and have had 2 C-sections. My stomach muscles are pretty much shot, so losing weight won’t help that, but exercise will. :o) So you need to realistically look at whether it is a food problem or an excercise problem.

However, the real problem is discipline…so we need the Lord to give the wisdom and grace…that is, if ya’ll really are serious!

    God Bless!

I'm already trying to lose ten pounds! Ha! Not for your contest- although I WILL join you. But…Doug said if I got back to my normal size, and kept it off for 6 months, he will take me to Hawaii. How you like dat?!!!!

Unfortunately, I really have a penchant for chocolate and lattes. This might be hard. I might really have to try. The third child did this to me. Scoundrel.

    I weigh #134 today.

    I'll check in on Sunday.

**In my own defense I am editting this to say, I am 5'4 1/2 and muscled from HARD work. Of course those muscles are in my unladylike arms,(goat milking) and not my rear end. Hurumph. Just thought I'd try to make myself feel better. This makes me want a brownie.

I really need to drop this after baby weight and I will do just about anything to get rid of it. I cannot fit into my size 8 anything. After the chocolate binge this week, I put on 3 to 4 more pounds. See what happens when you go to Chilis for their Molten Chocolate Cakes! Shame, shame, shame!

So I am… hold on I’m weighing…..149 uugghh! That hurt. Aren’t you supposed to weigh in the morning, neekkid, and before you put a crumb in your mouth? Oh well, I guess that will make me a bit less tomorrow.

Ok, as always I am last to get to anything.

I gotta go witht he masses here. From pics I have seen (which usually add weight in my opinion, you woul dbe hard pressed for me to believe that you are over 130 or geo over 180. Not sure about Coie. hmmm… At any rate, that brings me to my rant. I am so tired of seeing pics of women (which you can usually get a general idea of a persons weight, as in underweight, target, overwieght, obese, morbid obesity) from a facial shot. Too many of the people here who are too scared to post their weight are int he category of tem thar girls in school who made you want to throw up when they said they were fat. Puhlease! Y’all don;t know what fat is, I say. LOL! I read Amy Beth’s comment and wondered if my computer would explode or implode by my entering my weight. Hmmmm…. Do I have the guts to put up the numbers considering no one but Geo has posted a number over 150 (like my goal weight)? I admit my medical condition worsened my weight by 45 lbs in the last 3 months, but I am on new meds now and I don’t appear to be gaining anymore. So could I actually begin to work my “weigh” down? I look like I am ready to give birth. I weigh 7 lbs more than when I gave birth to my heaviest pregnancy. I just can’t see me fitting in this challenge…hahahaha no pun intended. I am trying oh so hard not to have to make a decision. Everyone has already started, so you all are ahead of me. AAAAAAHHHHHHHH! What have I got to lose, right? Hmmmm….

OK I weigh a portly 221. (I am only 5′ 1″, so imagine a baby whale and there I am.)

I am certain I won’t win, BUT I love the idea of a competition. I have never been competitove, but have been working on it. Let’s see if I am improving, eh? Jenig, my first goat will still be your name sake, even though you are a light weight. tee hee! =)

  32. iluvtheland said,

    Can't I just say

that I am closer to Boltbabe’s weight than JenIG’s???

Or perhaps an algebraic expression, like w=my present weight and w-x=my final wt??? Would that count for the contest?

If not, I will have to sadly decline the invitation to participate, because like another poster, this hs mom just gets on the scale behind locked doors, making sure that all keyholes are plugged against spying eyes. And the little arrows on the scale that are to show how much you lose? I don’t use them, because then the rest of the gang would know the official numbers….NO WAY is any one but me going to have that privileged information. The WorldWideWeb is NOT ready for me to post my weight for the world to see…

See, I clean and I miss reading about one of your contests. I love your contest even though I always lose, but this contest I want to lose…the weight that is. I can’t believe I’m doing this, but maybe it will encourage me. I was 144, but when I got back from NC I was 148. Unfortunately the 148 is still here, I haven’t lost any since I’ve been back. We’re leaving next week, so I’m scared to death I’m gonna gain 4 more pounds…..NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

So. I’m 148 like you, BUT, I’m only 5’3″, so technically you weigh less.

We are already trying to get fit and healthy by exercising and healthy eating. HOWEVER, I have been eating junk for the past two days that we have been iced in! Triple Dog Dare!

Oh no…not the Triple Dog Dare! I had to laugh as I read through some of the comments…148, 136..and you need to lose weight. HMPH! But I will admit that everyone has to feel good about themselves and if you don’t feel those weights work for you, then losing is what you should do.

I’ll join the challenge (if I can remember to report in). I found about you through Amber, btw. Anyway, I began my New Year’s Resoultion the day after Thanksgiving (figured no time like the present). I started at 234. I am now down to 199.5! The first time I have been less than 200 in a decade. Yahoo! And my ultimate goal is 145. A very good weight for me at 5’4″ as I have big bones (honestly, the doctor said so!)
