Jeneric Jeneralities ~ by JenIG

Despite all of my protests, Coie went ahead and turned seventeen.  Me and Geo took her on a special date and brought along her best friend/cousin Paulie.  We had a pretty good time.  We saw the movie Nanny McFee.  I *really* liked it and will blog a review later.  Me and Gena are going to take Levi and Ryann this week (Ryann’s birthday is this Sunday).  These kids keep getting bigger no matter what I tell them to do.  Little rebellious buggers.

Secondly, as Iluvtheland astutely pointed out, “we have too many skinny people in the Blubber Blogger contest”.  I think we should open it up to all participants in a more accomodating system.  So, if you want to join, you don’t have to list your starting weight iffen you prefer not to.  Just post your weight loss goal, and then check in with your losses or gains each week.  How’s that? Good idea?  Ok.  That’s our new plan until it changes again.

Lastly, go check out this website: www.WatchingAmerica.com

It is highly interesting because it features news stories from other countries ABOUT US, i.e. America.  If you want to get an idea of how we are viewed around the world, you’ll like this site.  *We are also having another contest.  Go check out this site and give me your thoughts.  www.WatchingAmerica.com sent me four t-shirts (2 medium and 2 large).  If you like the site and let me know you will be entered to win these. They look pretty cool.  These sell for $25 each, but four of you will get one for free.

    THANK YOU!!! 🙂

Sometimes if kids whine and complain enough, they get what they want…lol. I am proud to now officially join the Blubber Blogger Contest, and will even blog about it later in the day. Count me in! My goal is to lose 50 pounds to even get in the realm of respectable again. (I weighed a mere 122 on my wedding day…whatever happened???)

What is the deadline of the contest again? Cause I know that I'm not gonna lose that much by whatever date I seem to remember floating around in my head. No way, no how, no matter how hard I try 🙁 Can you let me know the date, and I'll set a goal for that time.

You are sweet to make it easier for those of us who look longingly at the pictures of you skinny young things (and remember when we used to look that way) to participate without embarrassing ourselves and our families. Imagine if my son had to do a hs report on "fat" (not too far of a reach, as he is studying lipids and all in adv. bio) and his own mom came up in the google search! I mean, really! I have people find my blog with a google search for far weirder things. And my skinny-minny sister might find out the actual numbers! That is just too scary of a thought.

Now my secret is safe 🙂

    Love you,

    Kathy

Yikes! The Watching America site was interesting and infuriating at the same time. But, we should know what the reality is around the world. Although, I do wonder if some of these reported “feelings” towards America and Americans is really what the avg. person feels. This is one of those sites that I feel I should read regulary, but won’t always look forward to it, because as we all know, whenever there is any type of natural or man-made disaster anywhere in the world, Americans devote their time, talents, and resources to helping out. I’m glad you posted this, my DH will be very interested in this…although, I can hear him now getting all worked up before he even gets through the first article listed!!

    Thanks ALOT!

Now you tell me, that’s what I get for reading your blogs I missed while cleaning. I won’t do thot again….thot and iffen are one in the same. The T-shirt probably won’t even fit, so count me out. I don’t want to finally win one of your contest and not enjoy the prize.

BTW, so far, no one is doing the avatar thing:(

    went there

i visited the watching america site and it looks like a good site with a lot of good information. i’ll pass it on to my husband. i’m ashamed to say i just don’t want to know all that stuff. it scares me and worries me and i prefer not to be scared or worried. i focus on the small things, like my family, and let my husband focus on the big things like the world! he would love a tshirt. it would go nicely with is club gitmo tshirt.

You mentioned that ‘if you liked the site’ you can win a shirt. Well I didn’t like the site. I looked up in their ‘about us’ and they say that they ‘have no political agenda’ and operate ‘by receiving donations’ okay. Code word for….We’re trying really hard to appear non-liberal, but hopfefully we’ll fool most of you….

Having articles by NPR…(hugely, hugely, hugely liberal) Christian Science Monitor (you kiddin’ me?), And any website that lists things that Al-Jazeera says as a portrayal of truth or facts is downright dangerous. I’m flat-out tired of anti-Americanism. It’s rampant on the Left and sad to no end. What happened to our great country? This website does nothing to further our country. It only lends to self-loathing. I mean….maybe it IS all America’s fault. The world’s problems that is. (tongue-in-cheek)

I’ll hop down from my soapbox now. 🙂

    I'm In!

Just figured out about your gettin’ skinny contest! I’d love to lose 25 pounds, but I know I won’t be there by the middle of March. I’ll see just what I can do though!

After reading everyone else’s comments, I’m scared to look at the Watching America site! Maybe I’ll wait until morning (besides, my DH is pacing waiting for the computer 🙂 )!

It’s amazing how our media never covers this kind of news. We really have no idea what is really going on in our own country, much less how we are viewed elsewhere (unless, of course, it is bashing the Christians or conservatives).

One of my fav alt media celebs looks at sites similar to this one; I love his perspective and his criticism of our media moguls. (John Leoffler, http://www.steelonsteel.com)

    Great link.

    Yeah….

Ya know…I was thinking the same thing…ya’ll are too skinny…whayda need to lose weight for??

Ok…I’ll bite….I’ll put a goal weight down…not really what I should lose…but something more attainable. I’m puttin’ down 10lbs. Not too high that I’ll never make it…but not so low that I’m mocked (yeah, right!).

So now…all I gotta do after the kids go to sleep is fire up the treadmill…guess I’d better dust it off first…fire + dust bunnies = fire balls!! Yikes!

    Here goes nothin’!

May the Good Lord help us all!

Great site! Glad you posted it. I know that we are very disliked, but I have never really seen it in print. Should be some interesting reading. Too bad I can’t hold my computer while I’m on my olyptical. I could kill two birds with one stone.

WoW~ What an eye opener. I’d sure appreciate a shirt…LARGE of course!

BTW, how does telling people not to say their weight change the fact that skinny peoples, like yourself and that rebelious bugger of yours, are still in the hunt? Personally , it doesn’t bother me either way…excepting when those peoples who don’t qualify for even the overweight category start clamoring about how fat they are. GRRRR! <>< Oh, and I hope your date with Coie put 10 lbs on both of ya, so I have a chance to win as Queen Blubber Babe. Hey, you should offer a prize to the person who loses the most or something; make it an official contest. Have you seen eyecorn's before and after photos. They are simply fabuloso! She's a real looker, and quite possibly be the winner already. judging from them thar photos. <><

Okay…since you have graciously changed the rules, I will join! My name is Leigh, and my goal right now is to lose 50 lbs. Honestly, I may lose more than that, but right now my goal is 50. When do we check in? Is there a certain day?

    Watching America

I found this interesting site about 6 months ago, and read it for awhile. It distrubs me that others see us in this way. When did America, the ‘savior’ of so many nations, become the evil one? And what can we do to change others view of us…if anything?

Okay… so do I now have to post the weight I want to be in August (2 months after baby)? a;klsdjf;aslkdfja;skldjfasdljk. This contest is so confusing… people like me can’t handle so many rules and regulations… it’s obvious I’m a little “slow”… I mean, I still am not certain what’s causing pregnancy… Mike says it’s the water… thank goodness it’s nothing else… I’ll give up water, but some people have said otherwise… Mike says they’re lying.

I think the site is a good resource and a time-saver too. I have surveyed various news outlet’s web sites in the interest of checking out global public opinion regarding America and this is SO much easier. I have to agree with my fellow bloggers that it is infuriating to read what others think and say about us, but it is reality and it’s important to be informed. Thanks for the suggestion :O)

    Blessings,

I’ll start with thanking you for linking to me. When ever you link to me my site meter go’s way up! So, I thank you for that!

Second, you spelled Nanny Mcphee wrong. You spelled it like this: Nanny Mcfee.

Its actually Nanny McPHee. But what do i know? I’m just your dumb little nephew.

Anyhow, I like your new picture better than your old one. Uncle Geo looks like he’s happily choking you.

    Hi Emily,

Thanks for taking the time to look at our site and post your thoughts.

It seems like you were in too much haste when you persused our site as we don’t post news from the outlets you mention. Watching America only posts content about the US from NON-US media.

I understand why you might have been confused though: the bottom right hand column of the site has links to articles that have been written all over the world (including the US and the media you mention) about our project. Probably you saw those and thought we run news from them. We don’t! We call this part of the page our “narcissism box”. One doesn’t like to blow one’s trumpet but it doesn’t hurt to the let the world know that we at least have a trumpet 😉

Finally, I can absolutely assure you that Watching America doesn’t promote any political agenda, liberal or otherwise. As I am one of the cofounders, and know my own intentions (and politics) very well, on that I can give my personal word.

    Thank you again,

    oh my!

Wowzers… sir. Thanks for having the guts to post such a great, calm, thoughtful response. In fact I did read the 3 mentioned articles on the lower left…glad to have that clarified. Also it’s cool to be reassured of no political slant. Obviously we are human and our politics leak out even when we don’t want it to, but I am happy that there is a conscious effort to keep that at bay.

It is indeed important to know what the world thinks of us. You can see how dangerous it would be to have this ‘news’ disseminated by people who already think America IS ‘The great satan’. It would be extremely dangerous. I feel much calmer about it having read your classy reply. Thanks.
